I'm 18 years old and I found out I was pregnant about a week ago. I went to planned parenthood yesterday and they confirmed I was pregnant and told me I was approx. 7-8 weeks a long. I have been drinking pretty heavily up until I found out about the pregnancy. I haven't drank at all since I found out, of course but I am really worried that damage has already been done to my baby before I was aware of the pregnancy. Should I get an abortion? Do you think my baby can stil be okay as long as i cut out the drinking and follow a healthy diet? Please help!!

I think option number two is your best bet. Many women drink before finding out they're pregnant, and have healthy babies. As long as you quit and follow a healthy diet from here on out, your chances of a healthy baby are pretty good. Abortion is your own personal decision though.

Many many women drink before they find out. I took a lot of NyQuil with my first before I found out, she is just fine. Don't let it stress yourself. Women used to drink a lot in the 50s/60s and look, most turned out fine.

Honestly there is really no way to know but it is definately not a reason to have an abortion. If you're that concerned request 1st trimester screening. They test for all defects that are detectable. There are studies that show heavy drinking has no effect and studies that even the tiniest amount of alcohol can have an effect. Exactly how heavy are we talking? An adult body has a hard time process alcohol, imagine a fetus. I would definately tell your OB about the drinking. He/she will rea__sure you and take the extra precautionary steps.
