Hola preggo/mommy chickas. I'm working on my Spanish, I know I don't sound incredibly stupid or anything, huh? Anywho, so the time has come (the Walrus said) to calculate my ovulation! Weee. Can someone give me a step-by-step because I am so confused. Don't use abbreviations either because I don't know what they mean (cd, dpo, wtf?) I started my first period on the 5th, and it ended yesterday (the 10th) so yeah, help me out please. Oh also, I'm going to go on the pill in a few months, as most of you know I've taken the pill before and it failed, so is there anyway I can be sure my birth control is working before I end up with 60 kids by the time I'm 40?

All i really know is you supposely ovulate 14 days after the 1st day of your period. So that would mean you would ovulate on August 19th. There is like a 4 day fertile window centering on the 14th day. Ive never had much faith in that though b/c many women ovulate at different times. Like with this pregnancy my 1st day of my period was May 8th so i shold have ovulated on the 23rd. But ultrasounds show i got pregnant a week later then that. So who knows. You could try ovulation strips though they are kind of pricey. Do you experience ovulation cramps or anything. Ive heard alot of women say they do. I dont though. Btw cd=cycle day dpo=days post ovulation. Right now you're on cycle day 7.

um ok its kinda heard to explain but if you have a 28day cycle so that is if it is 28 days from the day of your period to the day of your next one then you should not have s_x like 10 days afetr the START of your period to 16 days after the start of your period but i mean sperm can live up to 5days and you seem very fertile so i,d say just have s_x like either on your period (gross lol) or the day b4 it should start or like the day after or summit lol just dont do it in the middle of your cycle lol, you can take your temp every morning but im guessing that may be hard with a baby as your suposed to take it the same time every morning and you have to of had atleast 3hours sleep lol and it will take a couple of months as your temp will rise like a day or 2 after you have ovulated so after a couple of months you will see whne your body typically ovulates

*blinks* Hmmmm.... Okay well, I haven't been able to tell how long my cycles are yet because I've only had one period so far and I'm guessing it'll be irregular for a while. So basically what I got out of that was pretty much any time I'm not on my period isn't a good time haha. So if I'm ovulating and I have s_x after ovulation or a good 6-7 days before hand I'll be okay? Before I got my period I kind of guessed that I was ovulating because my s_x drive went from zero to full speed hahaha. I'm guessing that's my indication.

newbaby no wonder you got pregnant, you got it backwards. General rule of thumb is you will always ovulate 14days BEFORE your next period, because no matter how long your cycles, the lutal phase (time between ovulation & start of period) is still the same, so if you have a regular cycle (cycle starting from the first day of your period) then it's easy enough to figure out. example: 28day cycle you'll ovulate day 14, 30day cycle you'll ovulate day 16, 35day cycle you'll ovulate day 21 etc. If your cycles are irregular there are physical changes to look out for like cervical mucus (becomes clear & stretchy & very slippery, like raw egg white), rise in body temp (must be taken same time every day before getting out of bed). As sperm can live up to 5 days, it can be tricky to avoid pregnancy if your not sure when you ovulate so just use condoms meanwhile until you KNOW you've ovulated for that cycle (& it been a couple of days after of course). There is lots of info on the net about natural family planning, ways to & not to get pregnant & all the physical changes to look out for. It does work but it's a bit of a commitment doing it naturally as you need to learn how to read your body. Hope this has helped.

Have you considered an IUD? They are expensive to start with, but by the end of a year you are money ahead, and probably safer. Good luck!

I have gotten pregnant while using condoms and while on the pill, so I'm trying to be as careful as I possibly can this time. I have a kid so I don't have time to take my temperature and such. I'd just like to mark a "DON'T DO IT" day on my calendar :) Viv- I talked to my doctor about Mirena, but he suggested I stay away from IUDs because they cause infertility, and I'd like to have another child in a few years... Then probably more after that :D

Wouldn't it be nice if that could just all be marked out for you 0n a calendar? Unfortunately it really takes several months of tracking your cycle and watching for signs of ovulation, (and taking temps. really helps a lot too) to really know when you are most fertile, if you don't think you have the time to really do it i wouldn't recomend it as a form of birth control. I'm not trying to push you into an IUD, i don't use it either, but your doctor telling you it caused infertility is really odd to me. I mean i'm sure it has happened to someone but most doctors, including my own, recomend them as a very safe and effective form of birth control. Is your doctor giving you any other options since the pill did not work for you and you have not had much luck with condoms? There is the depo shot and also the implant that goes under your arm. I just think it is important to find something you are comfortable with and works for you so you can have more kids when YOU want to.

I thought it was kind of weird he said Mirena causes infertility too. I'm not taking anything right now because I'm b___stfeeding, the mini pill some times decreases milk supply so I don't think it's worth it... for now I'm just not going to have s_x. I was wanting to calculate my ovulation on top of using condoms AND birth control to be suuuuuper safe. My doctor thinks the pill didn't work for me because I was ill instructed by the previous doctor who had prescribed them to me.... He recommends trying them again. I'm iffy, I'm going crazy just remembering to take my vitamins. I was asking about calculating my ovulation so I could have a good grip on my cycles by the time I resume my s_x life.

Okay, here is the thing, you are screwed!!!! Just being honest, but it takes a few months before you get the hang of the whole natural family planning thing. First off, and I'm warning you I'm going to get very very detailed and gross, but it will give you options that are easier than temping and ovulation sticks. First off-cm which means cervical mucus. Did you ever notice a change in your discharge in the middle of your cycle. Like it goes from kind of creamy to plentiful and kind of stretchy and gloopy-that's fertile discharge meaning you are fertile and are either ovulating or are close to ovulation. If you watch your discharge when you wipe, within a couple of months you will be able to see your change of cervical mucus throughout your cycle. Creamy or lotiony is not fertile. Anything clear, watery, gloopy, stretchy is fertile. So as you go this month look at the difference around the time you'd normally ovulate. Then when you get your next period count back 14 days and it should prove to be the same time you had the change in discharge to stretchy eggwhite type stuff. You'll also notice that range of days before your period when you go back to whiter creamier discharge, that indicates the time that you went back into a nonfertile phase.

The discharge is what I generally go off of and it didn't fail me-the pill did the first time around. The second thing if you really get desperate to be sure is the position of your cervix. If you wash your hands really good and use your index finger and reach in there right after your period or right before it will be easy to feel. It will feel like a kind of not with a little opening and divot in it. Once you find it it is easy to tell what's going on. Usually when you are ovulating your cervix is high up and soft and open. When you aren't fertile it will be closed and firmer feeling like the tip of your nose. When you are about to start your period, it will come down low and usually they say it will be hard and open. So I know most people wouldn't want to do that, but honestly when you start off using the cervical mucus method you feel scared and need rea__suring so you might find yourself wanting to double check. So if think you are safe to go ahead and have s_x and you check your cervix and it's high or it's soft-I'd nix the idea. Hope that helps. There are actually a lot of helpful sites on natural family planning-you'll come across hippy sites and religious sites because it's preferred in the two groups, but they all have methods that are pretty good to keep you on track.

Dude I don't know what to tell you about that. I mean it could mean that you are fertile right now (you know they say after a baby you can be way more fertile than usual) or it is just another one of those signs of your body cleaning itself out.

I've still been having menstrual cramps too. Maybe they are ovulation cramps? I've never had them before. I asked about my period on the infant care forum, because it was SO weird. It was starting and stopping, extremely heavy to spotting, and the cramps, moodiness and NEED for chocolate were 50 times worse than they usually are... I mentioned in pa__sing that I was exclusively b___stfeeding and one girl responded saying she had exclusively b___st fed and at 9 weeks postpartum she had a really heavy period, now she's 10 months and hasn't had one since. Maybe it's acting so weird because of that...?

14 days after the start of your period and 14 days before the start of your next period is the same in a 28 day cycle. Which a regular 28 day cycle is what i was referring to. Yea no wonder i got pregnant- IT WAS PLANNED. And quite well i might add. The 1st week after having my mirena removed.
