I was kind of induced, so I can only be of minimal help. My water was punctured so I had to get it completely broken [which is fairly painful but not too bad] and be put on Pitocin (sp?) which is, from what I know, basically the same steps you take when being induced. [They just feed you the medicine through the IV] I was in labor for a grand total of 10 hours and about 15 minutes, and only pushed for 7 minutes. The Pitocin definitely speeded things up. Whatever happens it'll be worth it in the end so try not to worry too much.

I was induced with #1. i was past due no dialation........NOTHING at all that would imply i was going into labor anytime soon. I had a fetal a__sesment which determined i needed to be induced> my bp was way too high, i had low amniotic fluid, placenta already started detierating (sp), and the baby had drastically slowed down movement. I tell you all that just so you dont get scared by my story. you are in a better situation then i was..........They sent me to get induced immediately. they got me in a room hooked me up to a iv with normal fluids and bp medication. They inserted cervadil to help me dilate. they put it in which was uncomfortable but not painful. they told me nothing will happen tonight. we are going to get you dinner and a sleeping pill so you get a good nights sleep and we will start pitocin in the morning...she walked out of the room and within 5 mins i was having contractions 2 mins apart...she came back and i said ...thought you said nothing would happen tonight? without saying anything she walked over to the machine and said oh man looks like i was wrong! well they arent strong just frequent...so they fed me and then tried to knock me out but it didnt work because contractions were so close and getting stronger. they didnt hurt they were just annoying....early the next morn they started the pitocin...thats when the fun began....strong contractions every two minutes. they uped my pitocin every 2 hours....my bp was extreamly high! after 27 hours of ACTIVE labor with no drugs, i was dilated to 8cm...my blood pressure was so high they decided it was time to break my water to help things progress quicker...When they broke my water after they KNEW i already had low anmiotic fluid, it caused cord compression and Dante's heart rate dropped to nothing immediately. without telling me anything and hiding the monitor from me and everyone else in the room, they started trying to pump fluids back in me. I think that is called fluid transfusion or somthing like that...that failed quickly and before i could know what was going on they were raceing me down the hallway on a broken bed...i remember being so p__sed i jumped off the bed and was trying to help them move the bed and tell me what was going on. they got me into the OR and gave me my epidural so fast i barely remember it. they started cutting before i was fully numb. it was rather painful but not deathly painful. it was just so close to the being numb line that it was scary. they got the Dante out 3 mins after the first cut. I needed a blood transfusion because I had so much blood loss and my bp was making it harder for the bleeding to stop. I didnt even get to look at Dante for 3-4 hours after he was born, they rushed him out of the room immediately and gave him formula (when they knew i wanted to bf) just so they could make sure he was doing okay........I also had pitocin with #2 after laboring for a while without any progress....and yes it deffinatly makes contractions more painful....it makes them sharper

Hi Nawna24 - I had my bub just over 3 months ago and got "kind of induced" too so here is my story - hope it helps: Well my water actually broke at 3 am on Sunday morn, so at 8 am with contractions 5 mins apart we went to hosp. Unfortunately when we got there contractions all over the place and wasnt progressing at all. Stayed in overnight as waters had broken and had weak contractions all night. Next morn at 8am went into L&D and they hooked me up to an IV with the pitocin (sp) and also hooked me up to saline just so i didnt get dehydrated. So they started the drip and just increased the amount of the drug every hour - the first 6 hours were very bearable and nothing worse then I imagined it to be. After the first 6 hours the contractions where then 2 mins apart, lasting about 90 mins per contraction so basically on top of each other - I found these ones pretty hard to deal with and couldnt just breathe through them like the others - so I got an epidural which was great - I was only 4cm dilated at this stage - after epi I had a sleep for 4 hours and woke up at 9cm haha - loving that. Anyway long story short woke up pushed for hour and half then had to have doc come and a__sist me getting her out with suction (took about 15 mins) - then I had my beautiful bubba girl and it was all worth it. Basically I just wanted you to know that I was induced and it wasnt too bad - stay positive - you can do it - and you dont know your strength until you are going through it - just do what feels right for you at the time and keep an open mind and you will be fine!! Who knows - bub could come before then...... good luck! :)

I was kind of induced. My contractions didn't strengthen and they gave me pitocin. It hurt but it was dealable. Good luck.

To me labor is mind over matter...The more you focus on it hurting the more it is going to hurt. I honestly can say i have had migranes worse then labor. I never had a seizure from labor, and labor never kept me in the hospital for a week....actually with dante it was pretty close to a week...lol. With some of my worst migranes i scream for drugs. with labor i never felt i needed drugs. I prefered labor more then i prefered being pregnant with Zaiden. that pregnancy was miserable

Actually, I agree with that. When they checked my dilation they said "If you want an epidural, you have to get it now." And my response was "Ummm yeah I guess." Just out of fear things might get crazy later on haha.

I agree whole heartedly DB. I had cramps during my period that were thought to be endo that was worse. I'd bend of in tears, or PUKE even. Sheeze when I was in my car accident that was worse. Labor all I did was calm myself, take deep breaths, put it out of my head. I got the Epi because I knew I was gonna have to get an episiotomy, didn't want to feel it, but I just overall wanted to nap and i couldn't during the contractions. Couldn't anyways because my epi didn't work until like an hour before Addy was born lol!

I think even if i would have had v____al deliverys I still would have got the epidural. With dante probably not because i was too stubborn and wanted to be super woman, but with zaiden deffinatly. The summer before i got pregnant with zaiden I was in a bad car wreck. my back is messed up permanantly. I was going to physical theropy and the the chiropractor every day of the week. i didnt stop treatment til july of 07 (excactly a year after my wreck) They stopped treatment because it was putting me through more pain being pregnant. After that i learned that if you are in the hospital for anything and they offer you drugs just take it!!! lol. i was in so much pain my whole pregnancy, they baby was facing up so i had all back labor, and eventhough it was still tolerable, when the time came i would have got the epi just so i could enjoy having my baby a little more. It sounds selfish, but i think if the epi really harmed the baby they wouldnt give it, i am more against them giving demerol to women in labor or like they did to my friend...She was in early labor had a history of premature deliveries and quick labors, but the stupid hoospital sent her home in early labor 4cm dilated with freaken lortabs....3 hours later she called me said my water just broke where going to the hospital, then 20mins later her husband called me and said they delivered on the freeway...they sent her home with LORTABS!! with her history of quick deliveries, 4cm dilated, she had strep B and ended up delivering on the d__n freeway!!!??? stupid a__s doctors! Luckily they were all fine except for her husband who had bruises on his ribs for a month from leaning over the stick to hold the baby...lol he complained more then her.

I was induced and it was no biggy even though I was induced due to extremely high blood pressure risking seizures at that very moment. It was a normal delivery and my water broke on it's own. The only thing that was scary was the blood pressure and everything a__sociated with it, but they got it down and monitored me very closely. The only thing I will say and this comes from what I have heard from a couple of doctors, moms and several nurses-sometimes induction is a little more intense than natural labor but everyone's body reacts differently. The way they explain it is that it's like your body does things for nine months to prepare for labor, then in labor it does things to prepare for harder contractions, dilation, and the movement of the baby through the birth ca___l. You have to remember that it all has to do with back and forth signals from the uterus to the brain, and the brain signals the uterus to go to step two and so on and so on. Sometimes the unnatural stuff they put in your body throws things off and kind of kicks it into high gear so you may have hard contractions one on top of the other. They say it's only bad if you suck it in and clamp up. Then it hurts. If you relax, breath through it, push it out, and let your body act like a freeflowing motion moving downward, then it really relaxes you and doesn't allow your body to freak out. Even that sounds scary, but it isn't. I'm just saying that sometimes things move faster than your body is used to and you kind of panic, but for me, it was kind of an issue but I followed my bodies cues to move in certain ways and what causes relief actually turned out to be what got the baby out of my back and moved comfortably in position and down the birth ca___l. Water breaking is no problem, I had a catheter in because they don't want you moving around when you have high blood pressure, and the b___hy nurse that came in on shift change tripped on it, yanking it and causing me to bleed. For hours it felt like it wasn't in me completely, so when my water broke, I thought for sure I had peed myself. LOL but no pain at all, but when they do it manually I hear theres some pressure and a little pinch sometimes-it's like getting blood drawn, it depends on who does it! Some can make you feel nothing, some can put you through hell. You'll be fine-just take it as an adventure and enjoy every unknown and just relax-make sure to have someone there who keeps you calm and makes you feel safe-cuz there will be times when you feel very vulnerable.

oh sorry, to answer your other questions-they used a cervix softener to start off with which they inserted into your v____a. This wasn't bad at all, except the fact that I had a bad reaction to the lube they used on their hands! If you have that, just tell them and they know how to correct it. Then after so much time they put me on the drip which was pitocin, and then you just sit back and relax. God I think it was maybe the night before that they did the cervadil or whatever they call the cervix softener. This started the slightest little contractions. Then that next morning they started the pitocin maybe at 7 am, and by noon my contractions were starting to pick up and get regular, but not painful at all. By 6 pm I was in complete active labor but still not too painful. 8-9 oclock things got bad and tehy gave me an IV pain medicine that was like the best drunken high ever-I don't even remember that part of the process! But I hear I was talking out my b___t and telling everyone I love them. 9:30-10 I was really in it, 11 the pain became too much and they tried to get in the epidural but I had fluid retention so bad that it took several tries, and even when they thought they got it they hadn't. It was about 12 when they finished and left the room, I waited for the numbness, and only got it in a spot in my back-12:30, felt like my b___t was going to explode, and I was fully dilated-they made me push twice but told me to stop because they didn't expect things to move so fast and the doc was at the other hospital finishing up a c-section. I held it in until they could get someone in (that's the worst thing you can imagine) and I pushed about 5 minutes and he was out at 12:55. So it was about 24 hours from the time they put the cervadil in-and 12 hours of labor, 6 hours of active labor I guess you can say.
