I am 25 wks long and have gained a total of 6lbs. Last week at my prenatal checkup my doc said, "Hmm, only 6lbs" but then didn't say anything else. I have only gained 3lbs in 7wks! I don't hold back on eating at all, but I just can't seem to gain weight more quickly. I very well could only gain 12-15lbs total for this entire pregnancy at the rate I am going. And that is not healthy for the baby...the last thing I want is a under-weight baby. With my first pregnancy I had no problem gaining weight and ended up with a total weight gain of about 35lbs. I did start this pregnancy 10lbs heavier than I was at the start of my 1st pregnancy. Could this have something to do with my slow weight gain? could my metabolism perhaps be faster this time around? I am of average weight for my height. Just looking for some info and feedback. Thanks!

i was extremely sick in the beginning of my pregnancy and lost about 20 pounds at first. But when i did start gaining it was gradual...like from Nov.10 to dec 10 (remind you thanksgiving is in between) i had only gained 1 POUND!!! and i just couldnt believe it. But here i am at 36 wks and 5 days and today i had gained 3 POUNDS IN 1 WEEK!!! so i think it just varies. Now i do have the same concerns about the baby weight cause i dont think that my stomach is that big but so far i have gained (from what i lost lol) 27 punds over all. Were you sick at first?

I had the same exact thing happen to me and now I am putting on lots of weight. I was 15 pound heavier than I was with my last pregnancy and now with this baby I didn't start gaining weight until I was about 25-27 weeks along(sorry can't remember what exact week). Even if you don't gain tons of weight you should be fine, just make sure your taking your prenatal vitamin and the doctor is not having major concerns with the baby. I'm sure the baby is fine and you can honestly relax. If concerned call and talk to the nurse or doctor about it. Funny thing is, I was conerned when I wasn't gaining weight and now I'm concerned I am gaining too much, LOL. Good Luck

My OB seems to put more value in how my fundus measurment is going than my weight gain. I do know that if you start out any bit over or under weight your OB will take that into consideration for your optimal gain. ANd 1st tri sickness makes a big differnece too. If you're concerned make sure to discuss thoroughly with your OB.

Don't stress over it, I didn't gain my first 10 pounds until I was 28 weeks and my doctor said it was fine because I would put on weight later. Sure enough I did! Between 28-32 weeks I had gained 7 pounds, so now i'm 17 pounds total at 33 weeks

Thanks for your feedback ladies. I never had morning sickness with this pregnancy or my first. Lucky I guess...so I can't attribute the lack of weight gain to morning sickness. With my first pregnancy I gained the LEAST weight during my 3rd trimester and I suppose that is why I am worried that I won't gain enough before baby is born. But every pregnancy is different...or so I've heard so hopefully I'll start gaining more weight soon. I hope to avoid having that "talk" with my doctor at my next visit. Thanks again!

I wouldn't worry. My metabolism goes insane when I'm pregnant. I lost weight the entire time with all 3 of my pregnancies, ending up b/w 10-15 lbs. lighter at 9 months than I had been pre-preg. My babies were definitely getting enough to eat, though... they weighed in at 9 lbs. 5 oz., 8 lbs. 3 oz., and 10 lbs. 6 oz. ... oh, and I was constantly hungry and eating tons, so it wasn't even morning sickness related weight loss... just a wacked out metabolism!
