Question About Quot Downstairs Quot

Hi Ladies, Now this might be TMI (but nothing seems to be TMI between pregnant women haha). I just wanted to know firstly I appear to be swollen in the downstairs area - is anyone else noticing this - its not painful at all - I thought maybe from more blood flow? Just curious. Also I have been getting wierd painful very short "cramps" on the right side of my lower pelvic region - could this be braxton hicks - just thought it was strange as its always the right side? Any advise appreciated. Thanks :) xx

Hey bellybubble. I sometimes notice swelling in that area. It's not painful for me either, but you can definately feel a big difference from how it normally feels. I've never really been too concerned about it so I've never asked the doc about it...I just always a__sumed it was because of all the pressure of the baby or something like that. I also got cramps on my left side of my pelvic region a few months back...I don't remember exactly how I far I was when I went in to see the doc about it. Anyways, she said that it was probably just my tendons and muscles stretching from the baby growing. She said I could experience them just that one time or again later as the baby grew more. She said it was really common. I would feel those cramps like when I'd walk and I'd lift that leg or when I'd stretch a certain way. It went away after a few days and she said it was nothing to be worried about at all.

Thanks Samantha! Yeah I thought it might be normal but just wanted to know that someone else was experiencing this too! I tell you this website is a god send or i would be ringing my poor midwife with every tiny weeny question haha. :)

Yeah I know what you mean. It's really comforting to know that someone else is experiencing things you're experiencing....especially if it's something you're not too sure of. I'm glad I could help :)

bellybubble, I have the same thing going on I am 33 wks and 3dys. It is definately a weird feeling like, samantha2629, I have never been concerned enough about to contact my DR I think it just because of the pressure. I have a friend who was pregnant with me she just delivered 2 days ago and she said that she had the same feeling around the same time the baby engaged or was head down so that may have something to do with it.

It is very normal. It is a combination of the increased blood flow to the region and the weight of your baby. No worries.
