Welcome To The World King

So King was born on June 3rd at 1:36 pm. He weighed 9lb 1 ounce and was 21 inches long. It all started when I woke up early Tuesday morning with cramps and diarrhea (sorry for the tmi). So I figured it was just intestinal and that it would pass, especially since my due date wasn't until June 7th. So, with every contraction I was back and forth to the bathroom. Finally I got the bright idea to time the contractions and they were anywhere from 4-6 minutes apart. So I tried to drink a big glass of water and lay down, but this obviously did not help. I waited until about 3 AM and when they started getting really intense I woke my fiance up and told him I was gonna get a shower and then call the doctor. He thought I was joking and rolled over back to sleep. So I got in the shower and tried to do teh best shave job that I could do, but it was really really difficult. So I called my doc and was told to go straight to the ER. We had to stop for gas and coffee on the way, haha. Once we got to the hospital it was about 4:30 AM and they checked me and I was 3cm, so they swept my membranes and that's when the REAL contractions started. They checked me again about an hour later and I was 4 cm and finally ready for the epidural. They broke my water and gave me some pitocin to regulate the contractions. So I rested for a little while and the doc came back in around 11 and checked me and I was 9cm. I could not beleive how fast it all happened. They sat me up in the bed because my little guy still hadn't dropped yet, and then around 1 they came back and checked me and I was fully dilated and ready to push. They had my fiance come over and hold my left leg while the nurse held my right leg and the pushing started. Luckily it only lasted about a half hour before he came out. And all I felt was pressure, no pain, which was incredibly nice. Once he was out he was a little blue in the face which absolutely terrified me. He wasn't crying either. So the nurse took him off my chest and right over to the warmer and he immediately began to scream. It was the best cry I had ever heard in my life. I feel like the labor was a good experience for me and I'm glad I got to deliver va___ally, but I did have a 2nd degree tear. That sucks but it was worth it since my little guy is here and healthy. Also he latched right onto the br___t and is taking it eagerly every 2-3 hours. As soon as he realizes that daytime is for being awake and nighttime is for being asleep, things will be wonderful.

Aw, Gabby! I almost started crying reading your story! All these birthing stories make me so emotional...its like watching "Bringing Home Baby" on TLC except its reading about births from ppl you know and have talked to throughout the pregnancy! Gosh, that WOULD have been terrifying seeing King blue in the face! So did you cry after he was born? Did your fiance cry? Lol...was he just b__wn away? Anyway- I'm glad mommy, daddy, and baby are home and doing well...except for the sleep pattern. Hopefully that will regulate itself sooner than later! ;-) At his rate of nursing every two hours, I bet he'll be like 13 lbs at his month check up! Lol! Go momma!

Gabby - I haven't been on your thread but I just want to congratulate you - it is so awesome that your labor experience was so great!! I love love love reading the labor stories and Newlywed I am totally hooked on baby story and bringing home baby! I tape them all week and watch them on the weekend but now that my maternity leave has started I can watch them all...LOL ....OH and Gabby my 2nd son came out flip flopped with days and nights - thankfully he started to figure it out after a couple of days but how the heck do you try to keep a baby up during the day??? I did try to sleep when he was sleeping though if I could - this way I was rested up pretty good at night to be up with him.....ok sorry you didn't really ask for advice..LOL - Good luck! and CONGRATULATIONS on your little one! GABBY I MISSED YOU SOOOO MUCH!!! I woke up today and was thinking I was going to try and call you because I thought maybe fred is going back to work so you would have time to talk - Is he going back to work or does he get some time off with you? I totally hear you on the hospital time lol I was in a rush to leave and left after 24 hrs instead of staying the 2 days lol I should have stayed haha but I was like antsy cause my mom was in my house with chas and I felt like i was depriving them of seeing the baby. But I missed the hospital once I left ..no dogs to take care of no meals to cook or laundry or anything it was sweet haha and I cried too ...one day she was crying and crying an crying and i just sat there and cried cause I was so exhausted Now I am used to it. ANyway I have to run off to the bank before I overdraw my account haha I will be back later if fred goes to work and you find yourself awake and lonely give me a call! I dont want to interrupt any sleep you may get ...I hated getting up to answer the phone when the baby just fell asleep. Ok well congratulations again I loved reading your story I got teary eyed too !

gabby - that's so funny that fred thought you were joking. :) Tim used to wake up every time I moved and ask "contractions??" now he's used ot it just being a pee break and doesn't budge :) What a nice delivery though! Nice and fast -and a 2nd degree tear will heal quick enough. I had one with my dd. The night wakefullness and day sleeping - ug - it will regulate, eventually! :) Hang in there Gabby and Congratulations!!!! !!!!!

Thanks everybody! Heather we ended up with Frederick King because Fred wasn't budging on Kingston, even though I absolutely loved it. But it's ok, we call him King anyways. Newlywed, I was actually in shock when he first came out and then when he started to cry, I just started bawling. Fred was a little teary eyed but I was expecting him to be more emotional. Cors, you are absolutely right about the sleeping. When he's sleeping there is absolutely no waking him. Everyone keeps telling me, you gotta keep him up during the day, but how exactly do you even do that? I have tried everything, pinching his feet, tickling him, talking to him, nothing works. Last night he was good though, he only got up to nurse every 2 hours, but then easily went back to sleep once his belly was full. Hopefully it will just continue like this. Dawnie, I was actually going to call you today. I feel like I have finally stopped running and with Fred back at work, I'm kinda bored, haha. Fefer, you better get going on that baby! I was so worried about going overdue, but honestly I really miss being pregnant alraedy.

Gabby, either way King is still a cool name lol.

hey gabby - a good book to check out is called "healthy sleep habits, happy baby". Even if you don't like their methods, it's really interesting to read about sleep habits of newborns/babies/toddlers etc...It might help figure things out on the sleeping thing. I have to admit, I knew NOTHING about that when I had my dd and waited till she was 5 months (before I got the book) and it was a total lifesaver and I wished I'd had it sooner. I'm sure there are other good books, but this one I loved!!! I'm refreshing myself on it right now so I know what to do from the start! :) And I'm working on the baby thing - but what can ya do!!

HeatherIsHopeful - June 9

oh, my mom got me a book called "the happiest baby on the block" its pretty awesome... will totally make you re think everything you know about colic. anyway that has nothing to do with anything, but I thought it was a good book.

fefer1 - June 9

yeah, I have that book too - didn't help US with the colic unfortunately!! :) We also had acid reflux to deal with...ugh...but it's a great book and handy for most babies!!! Just not us lucky ones! :)
