Hi. I'm 38w and 5d and for the last 2 days (off and on) I have been having some major gas bubble type pressure down in my pelvic area that would come on very suddenly and stop me in my tracks and then slowly go away...prob lasting only 10 to 15 seconds. I called L&D to find out what was going on and they said they thought it could be true contractions. So, could anyone who has been there share what true contractions feel like? Oh, and I didn't feel anything in my back or anywhere else but my pelvic area...and I only noticed slight tightening...not like the BHC's...those would REALLY tighten my upper stomach. So, I'm just curious about your experiences. Thanks!

Bumpity bump...hoping someone will share their experience soon.

Tonigirl...lol I feel ya! I am just about as far along as you...only I am 38 wks and 2 days....anyways, I have been experiencing my tummy tightening as well, only for a short period and a real tight feeling too! And when I walk, I can only walk a couple feet then I have to head to the bathroom, but when I get there its just trinkles...lol this is starting to get on my nerves...lol these babies should just come already!!! If L&D thought it was the real thing why did they not tell you to come in to check you?? Thats weird. I would call them again and see if you could just come in to get checked, just to make sure that your not like fully dilated and your water just hasnt broken. I experienced that with my first DD, I was fully dilated but my water hadnt broken yet, I went three full days (those days are when I dilated) the fourth day I finally went in because it was too much for me, and thats when they told me I was fully dilated!! I was soo confused becuase I was expecting my water to break as well, lol well it didnt, the doctor had to eventually brake it for me and then my DD was born an hour later....just call L&D again and get them to check, that would be your safest bet!!! Good Luck!

Hey Susan...thanks so much for sharing..and GOOD LUCK TO YOU...You're so close as well! OH, and I totally feel ya on the walking a few feet and then heading to the b-room only to get a few unsatisfying trickles...ugh! Okay so as for L&D not asking me to come in...they actually told me to empty my bladder and then drink 2 gla__ses of liquid (and the nurse even added I can drink anything but beer...REALLY!?!?! That honestly needed to be added!) and then she told me to get into a warm bath. She said the combo of a full bladder and a warm bath that would relax my muscles would bring on the contractions at a more steady pace if it in fact was going to be real labor, but if not she said they would die down. They did die down. I had a few more that night and I've had a few each day since, but nothing with a pattern, which she told me to look for...so they didn't want me to come in. I'm having a hard time believe that terrible gas pain was a contraction, but who knows...I sure don't being that this is my first. I am going into my 39 week appointment tomorrow (well I'll be just about 39 weeks) and my doc will check me then to see if I'm dilated past a 3 (I was at a 3 last week). I've also been having some crampiness and achiness in my back and lower pelvic area too. So, maybe this thing is about to happen...I'm sure I'll know when it does, it would just be nice to know what to look for. Thanks again Susan!

for me I didn't really notice any tightening but it felt like diahreah cramps haha but like 1000 times worse. when I got to the hospital I actually tried to poop bc I was convinced that's what it must be.

Tonigirl - October 31

ha ha! That sounds like me too...I feel convinced these are gas bubbles! LOL! Today I went to the doc and she said I'm 3 1/2 cm and 50% effaced. She stripped my membranes....but I didn't know what that meant until after she did it...and then she told me...hmmmm....don't know if I would have wanted that done...I kind of want my body to do what it is going to do naturally. But I hear it doens't work all the time. So, we'll see. Thanks for sharing.

lol, well tonigirl let us know how it goes, I go on Tuesday to get mine sc___pped...whats it like? does it hurt or no?! I cant wait till I can meet this little one! And ya the hospital here told me pretty much the same thing, drink something but not beer...lol...weird but its supposed to work! I am hoping that this little one comes before tuesday so that I dont have to go through the whole sc___p thing....

Tonigirl - November 1

Susan...I feel the same way...just can't WAIT to meet her! As for the sc___ping...it wasn't that bad. It really just felt like she went really deep in her cervical exam and then moved her fingers around a bit...there was a lot of pressure and it was uncomfortable, but I wouldn't cla__sify it as painful....just really uncomfortable and it lasted less than a minute. It will be over before you know it. Keep me posted as to when you have this little one. Oh, and I have to say that I thought I had lost my mucas plug last weekend, but it was FOR SURE this morning...there was NO MISTAKING what came out this morning. So, I'm getting there. Here's to hoping you're on your way too. I'd like to go tonight or after Tuesday because I so want to vote...I don't want to be in the hospital on election day. But whatever happens will happen, and I'm fine with that...just want a happy healhty baby girl in my arms. Take care...

Hi girls. I just had a baby boy almost 2 months ago. This was my first. I can tell you contractions are different for everyone but for me they started out as really bad menstrual cramps... then they got worse. I initially went in and said I didnt want a epidural because i was so freaked out by the Needle in the back thing... yeah I lasted about 9 hours in labor and was begging for one... and told the guy who gave me mine that I loved him after I got it :) It is really hard to describe, but honestly something I heard over and over was you will know it when you feel it, and this is absolutely true!! Good luck to you!!!!

Thanks so much for sharing and I'm sure yo are right...when it happens I'll know. But it's the wondering up until then that can drive you mad! LOL! Congrats on your new little bundle.

susandutchak22 - November 4

Tonigirl.... You werent kidding when you said it was uncomfortable......thats something I am glad I will never have to go through again! It was for the minute my doctor was in there very uncomfortable! BUT hopefully it works....what the heck are you suposed to do afterwards....sit around and wait?? I feel like I wanna like run a marathon just to get things started lol....Anyways, I am glad that maybe we are getting somewhere and maybe just maybe we will meet our new addition like soon!!

Real contractions feel like a bearing down pressure, and it feels like you want to go for a giant poo, they come in rythmic waves - it made me worry that's what was going to happen I let go!! Eventually these contractions get closer together until right towards the end they merge in to one big contraction.... up until the baby crowns it feels just like the giant poo still... and only at the point of crowning do you feel the pressure in the v____a... then you get a burning sensation. sorry to be so graphic, but that was my memory if it in Feb this year...

Nemo - November 4

The plug for me didnt come out until I was almost 5cm!! so dont make the mistake I did and a__sume the show gives you a few days warning of impending labour!

Tonigirl - November 24

Hi ladies...just wanted to share that I did have my baby and I now know what contractions feel like! LOL! My labor started on Nov 8th at 10pm when my water slightly trickled down my leg. We went into L&D thinking it was nothing and then my water broke all over the triage bed. I was only dilated to a 2.5-3cm and it stayed that way for 10 hours. I didn't start feeling contractions until 2am the next day. They felt like a wave that would start in my back and then move around to the front. It felt like I had a vice grip belt squeezing my back and belly with impressive force. I had to get Pitocin to speed up labor, but unfortunately it only increased the intensity of the vice grip contractions. Finally after 4 hours on Pitocin i got an epidural and that totally helped. I never felt any feelings like I wanted to poo until I was at 10cm which was about 2:45pm on Nov. 9th. I felt terrible pressue the ENTIRE time I was pushing and the last 45 minutes was the worst! It felt like I was trying to push a bowling ball out my b___t!!!LOL! I can laugh about it now, but at the time I thought I was going to pa__s out! Then at 4:45pm I had an episiotomy and gave birth to a 10lb 2oz baby girl. She was absolutely perfect in every way! So, that's my story. Susan...you MUST have had your little one by now! Oh, and I had my membranes stripped again the day before I went into labor...so maybe it did something the second time. I hope that you went into labor naturally. Good luck to all those still waiting for labor to start.
