I heard from a friend that if you have scoliosis(curve of the spine) the risks are greater if you get an epidural? Just wondering if any of you ladies heard anything, I have it and now am worried about getting one!

You need to talk to your OB about that. Unless there is someone in here that specifically has the same problem as you and has been through it, then I really don't think the rest of us are qualified to answer. I'm sure no one here wants to scare you with hearsay. Let us all know what you find out. I can say that under normal circ_mstances an epidural is no big deal. I had one with my daughter and will have one again when I deliver this baby... no complications, no side effects.

I have scoliosis, and I don't remember if they even asked or not. Maybe they did at pre-admission time a couple of months before or something. Even if they didn't ask, it would have been quite obvious to the anaesthesiologist with me. My epidural wasn't a complete block -- I can't remember exactly what the anaesthesiologist said (next time I'm not going to wait quite as long before asking for one. lol!), but it was something about it not being a good low block. After watching a lot of those birthing shows and seeing other women with epidurals, I'm positive I felt a heck of a lot more than most women do. If the inability to properly numb everything was a result of my scoliosis or not, I do not know. I would think that it would depend on your degree of scoliosis on if it poses any risk. Do bring it up with your doctor though.
