Hi everyone. Sorry in advance if this is long. I am 35 weeks and 5 days pregnant. At 33 weeks, I remembering my doctor saying I was measuring a week ahead. When I went to my appt. today, my doctor looked at me and said I was measuring small. When she actually measured me, she said I was measuring at 32 weeks. She seemed concerned and asked when my last ultrasound was and how big my first son was. My last ultrasound was at 32 weeks and the tech said the baby already weighted 5 pounds and my first son was 8 lbs 1 oz. When I questioned the doctor today, she said the baby could be head down and this could cause the measurements to be off. But, the ultrasound tech also said the baby was head down at 32 weeks. Also, I just recently started a beta-blocker (about 2-3 weeks ago) for a heart condition and one side effect is slowed fetal growth. So, naturally, I asked the doctor about that and she said that my fluid is possibly low. I already had an ultrasound scheduled for next week, which now seems like an eternity away. I should add that the doctor today was not my regular doctor. I know different doctors can get different measurements, but 4 weeks behind after measuring a week ahead?? I am really nervous and need some advice.

oh hon... Im sorry, I bet you are so scared right now. *hugs* Im sure everything is fine.. maybe your baby is starting to drop that could certainly put your measurements behind, I know next week feels like its so far away but hang in there and let us know how it goes. sorry I couldn't help =/

I agree with Heather....maybe you dropped possibly. Sometimes when I lay down and I am feeling the top of my uterus there is a discrepency as far as how high it felt previously. Sometimes it's higher, sometimes lower. Try not to stress as long as babykins is still active.

bubbasmom- I am sorry you have to deal with this- it is so scary. I hope this helps but at 35 weeks with last pregnancy I was measuring 30 weeks (I had always been right on or a little ahead) so I immediately went for an ultrasound that day (obviously 5 weeks was a big difference) and the little big man was already 6.7lbs!!! It was just his position and that I am tall. Hopefull that helps a little!

Thank you for your replies. I'm not sure if the measurements are off because he dropped since I was told he dropped a couple weeks ago. I was then told I was measuring ahead. The doctor seemed concern too, which makes it even worse. Ejmeskan, I'm glad to hear your measurements were off and everything was fine. Unfortunately, I'm not tall at all.

yup i'm measuring small, but i am HUGE, i am convinced it's because baby is sitting soooo very low in my pelvis. Try not to stress out, just stay calm, send baby love, and your doctor will help you figure it out :)

Same thing happened to me at 36 wks preggo. I had been measuring right on for dates previously and then at my 36 wk checkup I measured 32 cm. The doc suspected that my ds was in a weird position but sent me for a u/s the next week. Well, the u/s was fine and baby was measuring 6.5 lbs. Tech said it was because I was carrying low and wide. BTW he had not dropped/engaged yet. Well, at my 37wk checkup I measured 35cm. And then at my 38wk I measured 37cm. My ds was born at 39w3d (31st May) and weighed 7.5lbs. He was/is healthy with no complications.

DDT, thank you for your story. I'm starting to wonder if he's just in a really weird position. Part of why I;m upset is because the doctor didn't even feel my stomach to see where the baby was. She just mentioned low fluid and basically left.

I had a similar experience. I knew when I was due because I knew when I conceived, my earlier ultrasounds confirmed this. But my doctor insisted I was due 3 weeks later than I actually was. As a precaution I had routine non-stress tests and amniotic fluid measurements twice a week. Everything always looked fine. My daughter was born 3 days after MY expected due date and was perfectly healthy. Don't worry too much about it :)

Hey bubbas- I'm in the same boat you are. I actually had a growth scan today (I'm 33.5 weeks) and my baby girl was measuring small. Just at 4 pounds, which put her in the 20th percentile. I'm also on beta blockers for irregular hear beat (Have been since the beginning of the pregnancy). I was also on the beta blocker with my first pregnancy and my daughter was born at 37.5 weeks and only weighed 4 lbs 14 oz.(Healthy though). I thought her small size was due to me developing pre-eclampia, however, now I'm not so sure. It MIGHT be the beta blocker. As I don't have pre-eclampsia yet, and this baby is measuring small as well...You'll have to keep me posted on what your Dr. says, and how big your baby comes out to be....

Hi preggosauce, I am also on beta blockers for an irregular heartbeat (I have svt) but only started them late in the pregnancy, around 33 weeks. The doctor said this shouldn't affect his growth since its so late in the third trimester. She was just planning on monitoring me more. I will post after my ultrasound next week but at 32 weeks, he was already 5 pounds. I did call my doctors office to see if my doctor could measure me, but she is gone til next week. I'm just annoyed that the doctor made me worry without doing any real check about the baby's position or fluid level. The stories of other women measuring small and having healthy baby's has helped though.

Hi, This actually happened to me today at my appt..(mind you i'm 28 weeks)...but today measured small for the first time...but when the midwife checked the position of my baby...it turns out she was lying in a transverse position..making the top of my uterus not so high...so all was well...with my first pregnancy...I was right on line then around 32 weeks I suddenly was measuring small as well...dr did a u/s and found my dd laying sideways...i'm sure if your dr was really concerned she would have done testing right away...good luck and keep us posted...
