What Does Effacement Mean Exactly

i am confused as to what effaced means. i understand dialtion but not effacement. whats the difference? also, if your cervix is measuring short, is that the same as being effaced?

I think it means that your cervix is thinning out in readiness for the baby to decend and dillation to take place, the three processess that make labor possible. I think these processes can happen at the same time.

yes, effacement is refered to the thinning of the cervix... When you are 100% effaced, your cervix is paper thin and ready for labor!! The thinning of the cervix also helps the cervix to dilate.
