My dd is 3 1/2 yes 3 1/2 and she still uses a pacifer when she sleeps. She will also use it laying on the couch watching TV. She will say she is going to throw it out but come nap time or bed time she screams and crys. I hate this thing! I always said by 2 she was done with it. I don't want a 4 year old with a pacifer. She is fine all day without it. Or if we are out. It is only when she is bored or tired! What do I do seriouly! Please help!

I saw this on Super Nanny...tell her the Pacifairy is coming to take her paci to the small children who need it in less fortunate places. Explain that its time she share it with the babies and create a whole fairytale about it. During the story, part of the process will be to create a "pacifairy" box to put the pacis in, so the fairy can get it later that night. You tell her that the pacifairy comes while shes sleeping to get the pacis to give to other children, but she is known for leaving a treat the next morning. You can then put her to sleep, hopefullky wihtout a fit, and while shes asleep, got to the box, throw out that pacis and fill it with sprinkles of fairy dust, some kiddie bracelets, or a toy...but throw confetti and glitter in there to make it magical. You can even make a little trail of it !THat way the next morning, when she wakes up, you can remind her of the story and to go check the Pacifairy box! She'll be happy to see what she got in exchange!!! You can add to it as much as you want, but I think you've got the jist of it. Create a fairytale story, like the Tooth Fairy, and hopefully this is all she will need. I saw Super Nanny do it with 3.5 and 4 year old boys!!!! If you try it, you really have to throw them out. THeres no going back. If you bring them back, that method just wont work. Dump them in the trash!!!!You have ot just remind her if she asks for her paci that the Pacifairy took them for the babies, and she got her treat.

Thank you I think I will try it. See she is ok if I don't give it to her at night. It takes a little longer for her to go to bed but she is ok it is the nap times that suck! I know once it is gone she is not going to take a nap for a while until she forgets it about all together and I am sad because that is the only me time I have during the day. She is with me all day and night so that is going to be hard on me. I have to do what I have to do because it is getting to the point of to old for one and also her teeth are getting messed up from it! Thanks for the advice I will let you know how it goes!

I seen that on super nanny to and it did work. Key to getting rid of the paci is to just take it away and don't cave and give it back. It may be a few less naps and a few sleepless nights but she will forget about it in a couple of weeks. I like the fairytale idea, just make sure you really throw them away and also, with my second son I told him them stores didn't have them anymore, and it actually worked.

Just take it away! Your the parents. I took my sons soother away and I told him that soothers are for little babies. Thats it. He had some trouble falling asleep the first week, but you need to just deal with it. Kids have their temper tandrums over all kinds of things. You canèt let your 3nhalf daughter control you. Just take it away thats it.

What a great idea newlywed! I'm going to try it for sure! She already asks about the tooth fairy - haha - so this should be easy to do. As for naps - or bedtime for that matter - it won't last forever. You might have a few rough days but seriously, if they can give up a b___b or bottle, they can ditch the paci. My dd is 3 next month and only uses it at bedtime/naptime and with a baby brother we've been hesitant to fight the fight till now. IT'S TIME!!! :)
