5 Mature Follicles With Clomid

srmonroe: i took 50mg clomid days 5-9 and had 5 mature follies above 20mm on IUI day. i have also heard people taking it on days 3-7 and result in bigger follies. my problem was not with ovulation so he had me take the clomid on days 5-9 so my follies didn't get too big. See quote from website below. i was very worried when the doctor said i had 5 mature follicles but he was fine with us proceeding with IUI. i got pregnant on my first clomid cycle with twins, but one twin didn't have a heartbeat so i now have one healthy 3 year old girl. you should ask what size your follicles are. i'm not sure why your doctor would advise you not to proceed with this cycle. best of luck to you! "In a natural (unstimulated cycle) or Clomiphene Citrate cycle, mature follicle size is between 18 - 30 mm. If triggered, these cycles are typically triggered when follicle size is between 17-26mm "

Thanks very much for your help Tina. I must admit, am feeling rather frustrated at this, particularly when seeing other people who have multiple follicles allowed to continue to try for pregnancy. What does 'trigger' mean? Some people mentioned about getting an injection once they have multiple follicles, this hasn't been explained to us? Also, the doctor said the risks were too high cos i have 5 follicles but didn't even say what risks are involved, just decided to take us off and that was it. So I'm going to ring them today and hopefully get some more answers. Thanks again, much appreciated, Sheena.

Oh, I was asked to take Clomid 50mg on days 2-6 and the scan (IUI?) was done on the 10th day I think, can't remember what the nurse said now, think that's what she said but I will confirm this also.

Ignore the IUI bit, that was an error! lol...it was just a scan to check the womb for any cysts

srmonroe do you have a short cycle? not sure why they would have you take clomid on days 2-6, could be reason why you have many large follicles. you should inquire of taking clomid on different days. i don't necessarily think having many large follicles is a problem for someone who is having a hard time conceiving. the chances of all of them forming into an embryo is low. I also had the injection to release the mature follicles, and had intrauterine insemination (IUI) the next day. my husband also had low sperm count, which is the reason for the IUI. Trigger probably is refering to the injection that triggers release of the mature follicles. also, if mature follicles do no release, then they could form into cysts.

Hi Tina, I cleared up some misunderstanding on my part with the nurse the other day! I got the measurements of the 5 mature follicles and are all on my right ovary and no injection was / is needed as I'm ovulating ok: 1 x 14mm 1 x 20mm approx 1 x 21mm 1 x 22mm 1 x 19mm What they meant was to take me off the treatment for the following cycle to allow for my body to heal, but they also advised us not to continue trying for pregnancy during the current cycle cos of the follicles/multiple births but that's our decision. However, after my cysts have cleared up (should they not be fertilised egss), then they said I can go back on the treatment. So I feel much better now, partially because I now have alot more detailed information about my follicles, which weren't provided to me at the time, and the fact that I can continue with the treatment again at some point. They said it can be dangerous if I remain on the treatment for the following cycle? They also have a 'legality' of advising everyone who has multiple matured follicles over 14mm, not to try for pregnancy. It's just to cover them basically. So we shall see what happens! Thanks very much for your help, Much appreciated, Take care, Sheena.

Oh, we're also not able to have IUI or IVF cos it's withdrawn from the NHS but we have private medical cover, just in case we have to resort to this method. And as I'm now 40, time is not on my side! lol
