Your husband has nothing to do with weather or not you have twins. It is only pa__sed throught the weman. If you and your husband have a girl and she picks up the "gene" then she could have a chance of having twins. If it is on your side and they are not identical then you may have a chance of having twins. I am a mother of twins. All pregnancies are different. I didn't start showing until five months with my twins and now I am 9 weeks pregnant with one baby and I can't fit into any of my pants either. I haven't gained any weight. You could be carying twins, but I wouldn't worry about it. Ask the doctor what your HCG amounts are and your progesterone count is as well and maybe that could tell you if you might be. Some doctors also do ultrasounds around six weeks and that could tell you as well. Good luck to you.

Identical are not heriditary...just a fluk that the cell divided. Fraternal twins are heriditary because this means the women released two eggs at that same time. Releasing two eggs can be heriditary.

Silly question maybe, but can the actual gene for twins be carried by the male and pa__sed onto his daughters? My father's mum had twins (they didn't survive though or he was the surviving twin, not quite sure what happened) so can I have twin gene from his mum carried through him and pa__sed onto me?

Not to worry just found the answer....Fraternal twins, produced when the mother's ovaries release more than one egg per cycle, do run in families. A woman can inherit the twin gene directly from her mother, or from her paternal grandmother through her father. This is why many people believe that twins sometimes "skip a generation." Having twins in the family does not make a man more likely to father twins himself, as his genes have absolutely no influence on whether his wife's ovaries will release multiple eggs. However, a man with fraternal twins in his family can pa__s the twin gene on to his daughter, increasing her likelihood of releasing multiple eggs and conceiving fraternal twins.

According to the nurses at my doctor's office, I am about 7 weeks along. But I look like I'm about 5 months along! I started showing about a week after I found out I was pregnant and it hasn't stopped. I haven't changed any eating habits, in fact I've probably eaten less lately because I have had morning sickness issues. Twins run on both of our sides of the family, but a set hasn't been born since my dad's younger sisters (they are 37 now). Could this be twins? I'm worried that there might be something wrong but my doctor doesn't seem concerned. My first ultrasound isn't for another 10 days.

Identical twins - for the most part - of a work of nature and 90% of the time are not do to family genes. Also, only a mother can produce more than 1 egg so twinning would have to run on her side. Even if a man has twins in his family his sperm can't make a baby on its own - the woman would have to have dropped a couple of eggs - for fraternal.

I am 5 weeks exactly and I am showing too. Just remember that every woman is different. And twins run in both my side and my fiancees side of the families. So I am thinking there is more than one in there. I only fit into my sweats as of now too. I am really p__sed because I bought a new wardrobe that will have to wait until after the baby(s). So yeah it isn't uncommon.

Everyone IS diffeernt. I was pregnant with triplets and my regular pants fit me until I was 12 weeks pregnant, then it was all down hill from there.
