Delivering Twins Naturally

Who has experienced it and what was it like (challenges/successes)? I am pregnant w/ fraternal twins and due Valentine's Day. The closer I get, the more concerned I am becoming. I know the likelihood that I will have a c-section is pretty great but I would really like to hear from those who have delivered twins naturally. I was fortunate to have had an uneventful natural delivery of my 17 mos. old daughter and although labor is unlike anything ever experienced, I would go through it again in a heartbeat even w/ two. Let me just preface this post by saying that I am not posing the question to start a debate or argument regarding which is better be it va___al or c-section or why as some would think that I shouldn't even consider va___al b/c a c is the only way to go. I am just interested in others experiences delivering twins naturally. What ultimately happens will be decided the day my water breaks and I go into labor unless induced or a medical emergency arises which requires that I deliver immediately. Thanks in advance...

I have 12 week old boy/girl twins. I have gone through labor and delivery once before and it went very well both times. My first daughter was 8 1/2 lbs and it was a 19 1/2 hr. labor. With my twins, I requested an induction 13 days early and after some prostiglandin gel, I was in immediate contractions. 6 hours later, they made their entrance v____ally. I did get an epidural about 20 minutes before "A" decided to crown. I'm a woose with pain, but my OB also suggested in case they needed to do a C-section with "b" since she was breach. She ended up turned head down as soon as "A" moved out of the way. It actually was so much easier than my first labor and delivery. They were both out within 20 minutes (although I only pushed for 25 mins. with my first). I figured that I would give it a try v____ally and if the need for a c-section came, I would accept that. By the way, "A" didn't turn head down until 36 weeks, so we thought we might need to have a c-section, but got lucky. Good luck!!!!!

jworking and Melissa thanks for your response. Jworking, when are you due? I just had a check up yesterday and both are about 4 lbs. and both are currently breech so praying that by time the "big day" comes that at least one will a__sume the proper position so I least have a chance at attempting a natural delivery vs. what my doctor mentioned which is a scheduled c-section. I was in labor w/ my 18 mos. old for 8 hours and she was delivered w/in 10 minutes of pushing. I am just keeping my fingers crossed. Melissa, your response was very rea__suring so let's keep our fingers crossed. Otherwise, all is well. My cervix is long and full so no signs of premature labor but I feel as though my belly is just gonna explode. I am just overjoyed I made it this far cause didn't think I would a month ago. Now if we can only avoid having to go w/ a c-section. We shall see ....

I am 37wks along, I go doc on thursday for another us to make sure everything is a go for an induction on the 26th! I cant believe you babies are already 4lbs, how far along are you?

jworking, I couldn't believe it either. And to see me is to be even more surprised. I am not a huge woman. Only 5' 1 and around 138 pre-pregnancy but the tech measured everything (head, belly, spine, etc.) and did the a___lysis and both are measuring the same at 4 lbs. I am right at 31 weeks and thus far, ALL belly. But my OB did nicely point out that b/c I am slightly hippy (which I cannot deny), I could very well spread outward as my pregnancy progresses ...LOL! The tech was saying that it is unusual b/c typically w/ multiple pregnacies, 1 is almost always smaller whereas mine are the same size and developing right on schedule per the estimate provided at my previous sono appt. My Dr. just said to watch my sugar intake over the holidays and not overdo it. So the plan is to induce you next week?! I hope all goes well w/ your appt. tomorrow. If you don't respond before, plz post an update.

Hi Erin. I have 8 wk old identical girls. They were born naturally and were ten minutes apart. I had them at 36 wks and my labour started on its own. I have two older daughters and had them both natural too! I didn't want it any other way! By the time I realized I was in labour I was already 4 cm, my OB reccomended an epidural, I had that and 4 hrs later my girls were born! My second daughter was born breech that was quite an experience. A lot of pressure as the OB had to reach up and grab her legs and pull her down! Very uncomfortable. She also had problems breathing at first. They said this is natural the 2nd twin is usually like this because they don't have the contractions squeezing their lungs they come right from the sack in to the air so it is a little harder for them at first! As long as BABY A is head down you are able to attempt a natural delivery and it is alright to deliver the 2nd baby breech! My girls were very close in weight when they were born our first was 5lb 9oz and the second was 5lb 11oz! They are growing the same as well. Baby A is now 9lb3oz and her sister is 8lb15oz! Very close! Good Luck with your pregnancy and your delivery!

I had my babies! Kori Baby A was 5lbs 14.5 oz and Rachel Baby B was 5lbs 6.1oz. Everything went great and I had them vag. Labor was only about 6 hours. Everyone got to go home at the same time too. I was 37wks 5days. The house is crazy!
