I want to say it has nothing to do with having twins, but I too have been taking folic acid for the last one and a half years and now I'm pregnant with twins... so who knows?! Are you in your mid thirties? Because apparently that increases your chances in cases where there is no family history (I'm 34). Good luck and take care :-)

I just read the summary of a study that contradicted previous views that large amounts of folic acid increase chances for twins- maybe they need to look at that again!!!

I didn't take "extra" folic acid - just the 400mcg that's in the prenatal supplement. I started taking it 6 months before I married my husband in October '04, and then had a miscarriage in January this year. Kept taking the supplement so by the time I fell pregnant I'd been taking it for a year and a half. Like I said, more likely due to my age than the supplements I think - but you never know and it can't hurt, only help :-)
