A lot of the women on here seem a bit off their rockers..I am 27w pregnant with twins now(spontaneous, first pregnancy) and it is so difficult. I am so worried about PTL -- I don't understand why a fertile woman would go to such lengths(unprescribed meds) to conceive more than one child at a time. Maybe if you have had huge babies in the past, and are tall and large boned it makes a little more sense...still why mess with your health and the health of any future children? I am in financial ruin because of being put on early bedrest...I have gained 50 pounds...I can't even go to the grocery store without contracting -- and I still have months to go(hopefully)...why would you want to subject yourselves and your families to this?? ugh...off my rant...

For my husband and I it has to do with timing. My husband is older than I am by 12 years and having twins would be a benefit to him. Who wants teens in their 60s, you know? I'm healthy, we're stable, and I'm able. That's why I want twins.

How do you know if you're able? You people make me sick -- you have no clue if you are able, or what the results of your illegal Rx drug activity will be. So your husband is older -- so you'll risk fetal death or preterm labor to have an extra child? Nice of you to be so liberal with another's life!

Great input ladies! I myself just want happy, healthy children. I don't aim for twins. In fact, I am at such a LOW risk for twins/multiples that I really don't have to worry about it. I would never risk one baby just for the chance to have two.. that is why I ask the question in the first place.. trying to understand where you come from! Stay strong, Angela! your babies will be here soon!

well HELLO yas2000. Actually, this post and line of questions was about WHY do you want multiples... nothing else. If you'd like, I can educate you as to WHY ladies who are infertile can take these drugs in a safer manner then a normally fertile woman. I can also educate you as to the definition of productive ( I have a disabled sibling, and love her with all my heart. that doesn't change the fact that she isn't a productive member of society. her disability saw to that. nor does it make it her fault. that is the ugly part of being disabled.) NOW, back to the subject.... yas2000, why do YOU want to have multiples?

I don't understand Yas, no one has said those ppl on fertility drugs will likely to have disabled children. The point which you seem to be missing is the more babies you put in the womb the greater the risk of complications. Which is exactly why Dr. don't prescribe the meds unless the woman can not conceive on her own. It becomes a necessity not a luxury. Do you think the ladies who take fert. treatments don't believe they are at risk?? They do, they KNOW that things can go very wrong at any time. Multiples are HIGH risk. Yes pg itself can be high risk too but not to the extent. Statistically you have a 5x great rate of complications than a singleton pg, so NO it is not the same thing. The risks are not the same. You say so what you are ready for the risk. I say go tour the nicu and check out the micro preemies...babies who were born before the 28 week mark. I did this and was so sad, the transparant skin, the wires and tubes and the dispondance of the parents of the kids. No one said disabled kids are 2nd cla__s citizens but I think that any parent would do anything necessary not to put a child thru all the that, not be irresponsible and increase the risk. IT is like wearing a seatbelt...you know that not wearing increases the risk of injury. YOu are doing just that...increasing YOUR risk 5 fold.I don't think many ladies fully understand how hard a twin pg is one your body emotionally and physically. You constantly worry about ptl which is a very real possibility. Why when you already had late term m/c would you put your body thru a high risk pg willingly not to mention the baby(ies) you are carrying. Thankfully clomid only raises your chances 2-10%, so this will be a non issue for most of you.

wow, ok. Here was your chance to shine, let everyone know just why it is you want multiples. You choose not to, ok. Oh.... women who are infertile have roughly 62% LESS of a chance of conceiving multiples ( info as per my doctor) then a woman who takes the same drug who is NOT infertile. SO... a woman who is normally fertile has roughly 10% chance, and a woman who is infertile has a 3.8% ( 62% less of that 10%) chance. So, um, yes, it is safer. Once again, though, that is not what this discussion is about. This is really just about multiple wanters getting their chance to say, proudly, why they want multiples. That is all.

Why do I want twins?................................................................Ok, well I get very sick and loose weight during pg. Then, I get PPD pretty bad. I have always wanted 4 children, and if I can have twins, then this next pregnancy could be my last one. I am a stay at home mom, and going on bed rest or having to stay in the hospital for a long time wouldn't impact our finances, we have great insurance and lots of family and friends that support us. I have just always wanted twins. It's hard to explain. Kinda like when you get a craving for sweet and sour chicken. You don't know why you want it, you just do! Hehe I know it is a lot of work, and that the risks of complications increase, but I have made healthy babies, and even if something bad were to happen, I would love my child or children no less................................................................But, so as to not confuse those that are trying to understand, I am not taking, nor do I plan on taking an unprescribed medication. I will take supplements and vitamins, and do some praying and meditation, but that is as far as I would go. If I end up with twins, it wont be at the risk of a drug...............................................................There are women out there that are willing to take that chance, but those risks fall on them. If they are willing to accept any consequences for their choices, then I think they need to be able to make them. As long as they understand the risks. If they don't then they do need to be educated, not yelled at.......................................................................Those of us that do want twins are in no way trying to take away anything from those that are infertile. I really don't see how they are related. If you are pregnant with twins, I don't understand why that make us crazy to want to go through what you are going through...................................................................Anyway, I don't know if I have made myself understood or not, or if I have answered your question.
