Why Are You Taking Unprescribed Clomid

Well today I again got a BFN and went straight to my GP. Again he refused me any help so I orderd my Clomid online. Yes i have researched and brought myself a bp monitor. Is it so wrong to want a baby? There's a mad out cry here about u/p clomid but another thread where a women wants to have selective reduction with TWINS has hardly no response. Why when both, as you all claim can put the unborn baby at risk.

I hope your side effects are virtually nothing and that it works out for you! Congratulations on your decision! I've noticed I'm a little moodier, and I had a few headaches and hot flashes...especially after I went up to 150 mg. All in all, it wasn't bad at all and certainly worth the the hoped for results. Good luck! Bobbie

Hi Bobbie. Good luck to you as well. I would just like to ask all those who object to u/p clomid how many of them concieved with fertility treatment? Then surely they took the risk they are accusing us of taking? What would they have said when people objected to them using artificle methods? Where they thinking yes i'm pregnant with # babies i'm so happy or where they thinking oops perhaps something could go wrong or both? A risk we all take with a natural pregnancy as well. I'm sure they didnt think the latter! Lets not judge each other. Let's hope for wonderful blessing of babies. I would just like the chance to have a sibling to my daughter. Not much to ask and I don't expect to be judged for it.

That's a beautiful way to put it! Very tactful! I've also wondered that...it's really not much of a selling point, when other moms who had twins, triplets, etc. with monitoring, caution us about not getting monitoring...because we could have twins, triplets, etc. They HAD monitoring...and still conceived multiples...what's the big difference? And I really hope your daughter gets that sibling soon!

I have little issue with someone who has been diagnosed with IF or has been prescribed clomid in the past obtaining it u/p. At that point it becomes the user's informed decision. Personally, the problem I have (and I think many will agree with me) is someone taking it u/p when they have no idea what the cause of their IF is or how the drug will affect them (or if they will even respond to it). I also think that trying specifically for multiples by taking fert. drugs when you have no IF problems is a bad idea (not the norm, but yeah some people do it). I also agree that 'Agree to Disagree' is the way this debate will always be resolved but it should be pointed out that the risks of taking u/p fert medications and the risks of multiple gestation should not be trivialized. Not everyone is as well informed as some of the posters on this board and may just see these posts and think 'it worked for her, so it will work for me' and as we all know that is not always the case. Yes, alot of the argument sounds like a broken record, but to the women who have lived through this stuff, they want to try to spare anyone who doesn't HAVE to build their family this way from potential heartache. There are no guarantees in life, but doing things the safest way possible is a good start.

How many who are prescribed clomid DO know what causes there IF? Is it not there first option?

beckylol1 - June 19

Sorry didn't get time to finish that. Baby needing feeding....lol. Most of us taking u/p clomid would just love the chance of a pregnancy.

That's an excellent point, freebird...and I really appreciate the manner in which it was stated. I just wanted to say one thing, though....Clomid is the first and most frequently prescribed medication for "unexplained infertility" or "secondary infertility". So....a lot of women don't and will NEVER know why they're not able to conceive.....whether or not, it's monitored, unmonitored, prescribed through your regular doctor, bought online illegally, or bought along with a purchased prescription online. Again...thank you for a well thought out, civil post.

Sorry, I guess I should have elaborated more but didn't want my post to be too long :). While it is true that clomid is usually the first treatment that docs use in treating unexplained IF there are many conditions where clomid won't help which are detected during routine fertility testing. For instance, blocked tubes, many hormonal imbalances, or severe male factor IF (it's not always our fault!). I guess the reason I think about this is because that was the problem that my DH and I had. He had a morphology problem which was corrected by IUI + a low dose of clomid for me to provide more targets. According to my RE, Clomid alone would not have helped us because due to DH's morphology issue the sperm had a hard time getting where it needed to go (which is sometimes made worse by the meds because of hostile cm issues) so I could have been taking it for months with no success. Used in combo with IUI we were successful faster than we would have been otherwise. But, I digress. My point is, if you can't get pg there's a reason for it that's not always obvious and the treatment is different depending on the diagnosis. Those who have known conditions and have been treated for them in the past are a different story because IMO they're not going into using the medication 'blind' as they've had some experience with it. My issue lies with people viewing clomid as a miracle drug that's a cure-all when it certainly is not. For those who know that it works for them and their particular condition, I say 'more power to you!' buy it from anywhere you'd like, I'm all for the free market. To anyone else, I would think that you'd want to know what the problem might be. I know I did.

I think the real outrage at a big part of this topic is that someone would take Clomid unprescribed in an effort to become pregnant with multiples. I once met someone who saw my triplets and said, "we wanted triplets SO badly." She told me she would have "taken drugs" if she could have to get triplets, or at least twins. I felt sick to my stomach hearing her talk. But wishing for more than one, and actively pursuing it are two different things. We did use fertility meds through IVF, but we only transferred 2 embryos and I came dangerously close to oversimulating. Thank GOD I was monitored. For those of you who choose to use any fertility meds unprescribed, so be it. But be aware that you can hyperstimulate and damage your chances of ever conceiving. You can become pregnant with multiples you later lose. Double or triplet the heartache. Sure, it can happen while being monitored. The difference is, without monitoring, nobody will be there to see the ultrasound and help you get the right number of follicles to stimulate and know when to back off a bit. Knowing how my body responded to stimulating meds, I believe I could have been in real trouble if I hadn't been monitored. The docs had to cut back several times on the meds during just one cycle. Just be very careful. Wishing you each ONE healthy baby at a time....

Very well put LOTSOFKIDS. I do intend to have regular paid for u/s as soon as and if i do get my BFP. I just want and many more just want the chance to be pregnant. To love and cherish what we have been given. I do agree that taking clomid just to have twins etc is not the right reason. But who am I to judge!!!

babs6219 - June 19

Absolutely...I agree with all of that....I vividly recall a wwoman I worked with ( in a DAYCARE!) when the septuplets in Iowa were born...she was almost obsessed by them, and said she wanted " seven just like them". I tried to explain that they weren't planned to be 7 of them...but she never quite believed me. And add me in to that group that just wants to be pregnant...now!

I ordered unprescribed Clomid (Omifin) 30 pills/50mg from MedsMex.com. The small brown box was delived within the 7-10 day turnaround as the company promised. I'm a 26yr old mother of one and decided now is the time to have another baby. After doing some research, I found out this drug has a long history of success and minimal risks a__sociated with it's use. My best friend is a pharmacist and said it is widely used to jump start fertility. Not all docs will just hand over a Rx however. My OB/GYN has one prerequisite: marriage. When doctors start putting their own personal morals before the physical qualifications of the patient....more and more women will order from Mexico & Canada, like I did. Also..I do understand there is an increased chance of multiples. I'm taking this to help get pregnant quickly, NOT specifically to have twins or trips. Why are so many women here condemning those who DO specifically want more than one? Life is full of risks and don't let anyone call you selfish.

If you have no problems getting pregnant and are taking clomid just to conceive faster, that might actually prolong your task. We have had many moms on here taking it (mostly for twins) that had a history of getting pregnant quickly and with the clomid, it actually took them several months because it changes your cycles. So, if you have no problems but think this will make it faster, the chances are, it may do the opposite.

I have been reading these posts for some time now and have been hesitant to post because of the neg. backlash by even considering taking u/p clomid.... Is this thread even still active?? but...I finally have gotten up the nerve. So here goes...I am a almost 32 yr old SAHM of three, two beautiful sons 10 (adhd, with many medical problems behind us!!) and 7 (developmentally delayed, once cla__sified as special needs boy..not now..yippee!!). Our daughter was adopted ( we have custody) in our hearts 2 years ago at 7 mo. old from my neglectful sister. At the time when we got our lil girl we had been trying to conceive for 3 years with out any luck ( I had just received my u/p clomid 1 week before the phone call to come get her). I thought she would cure my yearning to be pregnant again...it did for awhile. Now it is back.... My mother and Grandmother both had serious gynecological (sp?) problems in their early thirties that made it necessary to have a hysterectomy before 35. My hubby and I did discuss the possibilities of hom and while it is not our desire to have 3 or more we feel that with the drug clomid the risks are low by just upping our chances of having twins slightly. I feel that I might be prescribed the drug if I consulted a RE but I have learned that having taken Clomid can reduce or even eliminate your chances to be covered (for basic medical care) by certain medical insurance companies. I would appreciate any input from anyone who would like to comment... My u/p expires in Feb 07 so I am considering taking it early next year...to get all our affairs in order before just in case we do get preg. with more than one.
