Hi girls -- hope you two had a woderful Easter with your baby girls! Alex had rice cereal for the first time on Easter. She loved it and didn't make a mess at all! So I gave her some this morning too. I did 1/2 tsp cereal w/ 2 TBSP of b___stmilk. She thought it was yummy and I couldn't shovel it in her mouth fast enough! Alex will be 5 months old on Friday the 13th! She is already 26-1/4" and 17 pounds... my little chunker! •••• KRISTINE: We knew you'd go through a lot of diapers. I am sure you are zooming on through your stash like the speed of light! That is cute your Mom wants to be your personal maid just so she can be around Nora. ••••• EJOLA: I can't wait to see the Baptisim pictures. I am sure they are adorable & glad Mackenzie was well behaved for you! ••• Alex is crying..., need to feed her. TTFN

The baptism dress was beautiful. Thanks for the pics. Nora's doign well. She was 3wekks yesterday. Loves to be held though. She has had some bouts of fussiness where she cries and kicks her legs out. I thought it was reflux but doc says she doesn't have the cla__sic signs. She says it's her age and many babies cry for no reason. That's hard to accept but I have to trust our doc. We give her the gas drops and I think it helps.-------I have some b___stfeeding questions for you both. When did you first give a bottle? Was it b___stmilk? Do you still b___stfeed or if not, when did you switch to formula? I'd like to start pumping a reserve for the freezer.

Happy Tuesday ladies! Hope everyone had a nice weekend! ••••• Kristine: How big is Nora these days? We need new pictures! Want to share a little secret - Alex was VERY FUSSY / COLICKLY weeks 3-9. And week 6-8 were the WORST! We used Mylicon - mylicon.com (It is cheapest at WalMart) for the gas relief which really worked and Gripe Water for the upset tummy. Sometimes we'd give both to her at the same time and usually within 3-10 minutes she would be feeling good again and it would last for hours! Til this day I carry them in her diaper bag. You never know when you need to use them. Hope this info helps! As for the BF: Yes I still b___stfeed. All day long. But now that she sleeps through the night and just started eating rice cereal and bananas once a day I don't bf as often. So I think I need to start pumping again and freezing it to keep on hand. For the bottle issue: Alex had a bottle when she was 4 days old -- becuase she was in an incubator and I had to pump at the hospital. So for a month I would pump milk into a bottle and have family or DH feed her... but after that she decided she wanted nothing from the bottle and wanted just me!!! That was hard because it was easy to pump into a bottle and take it on the road with us if we were shopping, etc. But up until last week she only b___stfed exclusivly. I bought an expensive bottle that is shaped like a b___st called the Breastbottle® Nurser. I bought it at: One Step Ahead (I get their catalog) online at: onestepahead.com. Alex drinks from it and has been for the last week. I am finally happy that I can take a bottle on the road again! ••••• Cookie: When does Mackenzie start her swimming lessons? Do you have those Swimmers diapers for her? Is she sleeping through the night yet? Hugs to you girls and your DD's. ~ Love Michele

Nora is 7lbs, 13 oz. as of last Friday. She already doesn't fit in her newborn clothes. Sad.....----------------------So glad to have you two to bounce things off of! I am relieved to hear about Alex's experience and know I'm not alone. Did you ever think something was medically/physically wrong or you knew it was colic? We have been using the Mylicon drops for a week but I've never heard of Gripe water. What is it and where do you get it?

I never thought there was anything wrong with Alex. My pediatrican is good at informing me of things to look for and she was the one that said to try Mylicon. My aunt who has 12 children and 29 grandchildren told me about Gripe water. And Gripe water is at most Health Food stores and some grocery stores. It is all natural and most contain Fennel and giger and a lot of other stuff good for the tummy. It worked for Alex.. hopefully it will work for Nora if you try it.

Hi Ladie,s Kristine glad to hear from you, I was a little worried when you mentioned the baby blues...I think my SIL had it and never got it treated and is still having problems (2 years later ) due to it.....we really lucked out with Mackenzie, she was never a fussy newborn...the only time she would fuss is if she was tired, hungry etc...although that is how I found out I wasn't making enough milk for her...she was both b___st fed and bottle fed from the beginning due to her jaundice...and it worked really well for us when I had to go back to work ...I fed her about 5-7 times a day...then she had 3 or so bottles of formula...I weaned her this past month as I had to travel for work...and she now gets some rice cereal in the evenings....Michele, she has been pretty much sleeping through the night since we went to Disney at the beginning of March...she starts to get fussy around 7ish so I give her a bath and bottle...and she goes down around 8 ...lately she is still awake when I put her in her crib...and turn on a music light which projects images on the ceiling...by the time it stops she is fast asleep...she never cries or anything...just watches until she drifts off to sleep...sometimes I hear her on the monitor at night talking to herself...and then she falls back to sleep...and she usually wakes up around 6ish...and hangs out talking to herself until I go get her....she still takes about 3 or 4 naps during the day...I hope she is not sleeping too much....but if she's tired I'm not going to force her to stay awake....she on her own twice since this weekend...and can now stand holding onto her crib, or my fingers...sometimes holding on with just one hand...dr said she shouldn't be doing that yet...but oh well that seems to be the mantra...lol...she is still so small ...12 pounds 11 oz...at her 4 month appt....which is funny b/c my friends baby was this weight at 2 months...we just tell people she's compact...lol...also Michele you mentioned on the other blog that dh was having reservations about ttc in september...what's going on with that? I was thinking we may start around that time too...that way the majority of my dr's visits etc...would be in the same year so I don't have to cover two deductables....ok for now....big hugs to all four of you!!!

Cookie, Baby blues have been gone for a week. (thank God). That's so cute that she talks to herself in the crib. I'm a__sumign Nora will start cooing very soon. Can't believ Monday she is a month old! MICHELLE, I bought the gripe water. I gave it to her and she slept for two hours without kicking or crying or straining to poop. We'll see what tonight brings. How often did you give it to Alex? Did you give it right after feedings?---------------- Sooooooo, you ladies are thinking of ttc again? That is great to hear. I'm 35 next month and I do think about a sibling for Nora but no definite plans as of now.

So much for the night time. She had a fit every time I put her down to sleep, clenching her fists and kicking her legs. she threw up a half hour after nursing and getting the gripe water. She had another crying episode this morning after waking up for the day and the only thing I can do is hold her very tight and pacify her. DH was walking around with her and singing. It worked for awhile and she'd start wailing again. She also spit up a little again (ironically after the gripe water again)That's the only time she takes a binky is when she's crying so much. I took her temp. and it was normal. Maybe she has some mild case of colic. It's so hard to know why they cry. I just want her to be happy and not in any pain.

KRISTINE: I would say the first 8 weeks were really hard. Alex went through a bought where she threw up once a day for a week. I am talking ma__sive quanity of pook and not just spitting up -- where I would have to take a shower to clean up. She never had a fever and the pediatrian said it was ok as long as it wasn't all day long! It scared me. I felt so helpless -- but I was told all babies are adjusting to the "WORLD"... their bodies are getting use to food, gas -- pain, etc and that they will eventually be ok. Like I said it is a phase. It took Alex about 8 or 9 weeks to begin to stop being colicky (sp). I never gave Alex the full dose of Gripe Water. Just a 1/2 dose. And I would give her Mylicon and Gripe Water before I BF her. Otherwise she would spit up more. Try doing an airplane hold it tends to have less pressure on their tummies and the rocking soothes them. ALSO, try a heating pad on Nora's tummy -- lowest setting of course -- it worked and made Alex fall asleep. It is all live and learn. But, what works for Alex might not work for Nora or Mackenzie, don't worry - you'll figure out what Nora wants and once that happens it feels like GOLD! I am gonna be sooo busy this weekend. So if I don't talk to you girls, please try to have a wonderful weekend!

Thanks for your advice. After all I've been through, I feel so guilty "complaining" about motherhood. I'm sure the sleep deprivation plays a big role in this. I'm just going to take it one day at a time as I know this will pa__s. have a good weekend. We're finally looking at 70 degrees after weeks of rain and 40 degree weather. That will sure help my spirits. Maybe I should move to Florida Cookie. lol

awe, poor Nora, Michele is right...they say that the first 8 weeks or so babies cry the most...usually peaking at 6 weeks...so hang in there...I swear Mackenzie started teething this weekend...poor little munckin we were in Tampa for my best friend's baby shower...and she was the crankiest she has ever been (which actually wasn't bad at all)...but for her it was...she is chewing on anything she can get in her mouth...and I think she may be getting an ear infection because she keeps rubbing her head by her ear...and then she ended up with a diaper rash yesterday (her first one)....poor kid, I heard it puts them under alot of physical stress so all sorts of things start happening...I gave her some baby tylenol and that seemed to settle her down...but I don't want to be giving her too much of it....is Alex showing any signs?

Thanks for the carrot photos Cookie. So cute!!!! Sounds like Mackenzie may be getting some teeth soon. Does she sleep through the night right now?--------Nora's being walked around right now by DH. I'm on a break. lol She had two great nights in a row where she went down peacefully and slept for four hour stretches. Lats night it took two hours to setttle her down and she was crying so hard. She'll settle down with one of the methods we use (swing, rocking, singing, whistling, etc) and then all of a sudden she's wailing so loud and hard again. She has her one month appt. Friday and I'll mention it to the doc but I'm going with this is her age and it will pa__s.

Happy Friday Girls.... Just popping in to say hello. This week has been a rough one taking Alex to work with me. She has found her voice of screaming until I pick her up. It really sucks!!! So I have been leaving my clients early all week since I feel like I am imposing on them and just embarrased that my kid makes so much noise. YESTERDAY -- Alex rolled over -- from tummy to back. I was amazed! ••• Hope Nora and Mackenzie are doing well. Have a great weekend and will talk to you next week.

Hi ladies, hope you had a good weekend. Nora has a cold. I am so sad. It just came on all of a sudden. We saw the doc and she said to give her nose drops and let it ride out unless the cough gets worse. Yippee, another milestone for Alex. I think Nora's right behind her. She is a wiggle worm! Last night, she wiggled herself to the bottom of the ba__sinet. Her legs were squished up against the bottom. And that's with an incline wedge! Oh by the way, as of Thursday, I've eliminated dairy from my diet. We'll see if that helps with her ga__siness and fussiness.
