Morning Sickness Questions

Hi. I was wondering who here experienced morning sickness with their pregnancies and who didn't? How many of you actually vomited, and how many of you were just queasy? I'm asking because I'm planning on TTC in the near future, and I'm an emetophobia sufferer. Emetophobia is the fear of vomiting. I've only vomited maybe a total of 3 times in my life and am usually good at fighting off nausea so I'm hoping I won't experience severe nausea or vomiting. I can handle mild nausea. I heard it was genetic. My grandma had NO vomiting with her 5 pregnancies, my mom threw up non stop with me for 9 months. I'm hoping to follow in my grandmas path and not throw up at all. Have any of you used Seabands or Preggie Pops? If so, how did they help morning sickness symptoms? What about a prescription like Phenergan which is an antiemetic. Did those help your symptoms? Sorry for asking such a dumb question, but I need to know this. Why does such a beautiful thing come with such an awful price to pay? :(

my personal experience with morning sickness was terrible. i vomited everyday for about 2 months. i actually became used to it. toward the end of my 1st trimester i went to walgreens and bought seabands and to my suprise they really helped me! i didn't puke anymore, just felt sick at times. all i can say is everyone is different. i started with my vomiting being a little over a month pregnant. smells would really set it off. my mother didnt throw up even once being pregnant twice. my sister puked thru both of her pregnancies only b/c she had colistasis of pregnancy. in which you wouldnt find out if you had that until actually being pregnant. good luck to ya. i'm still pregnant and at 37 weeks just looking forward to my little girl i can say that when i see her face it will all be worth it!

Hi dontwannabeme. Your loathe for vomiting is something I share with you. It appears since you have only vomited a few times in your life that it takes a helluva lot to make you puke. This is a good thing. While I have no scientific data to prove this, anecdotal evidence seems to indicate that those people who hardly ever throw up will tend to not puke as much during early mos of pregnancy. In my case for example, the only times I have ever thrown up is with viral illness or food poisoning. Currently I am 10 weeks PG and while I feel pretty queasy a lot of the time..I have never thrown up. In fact, I have never thrown up in any of my pregnancies.... regardless of the pregnancy outcome. Phenergan does work pretty well...but it can zonk you out a lot...many ppl don't tolerate it.

Sea bands worked for my nausea. I haven't thrown up once in my 32 weeks because of morning sickness, just while brushing my teeth, which didn't happen before I was prenant. I've only been nauseous.

Personally, I've only thrown up a couple of times (7wks4days right now). Those probably had more to do with not taking my prenatal vitamin at right time and with food on my stomach. I now take it at night after having something on my stomach like piece of peanut b___ter bread. Now I"m just queasy a lot. I'd suggest your read up on things that help and take a preventative approach like trying the sea bands, taking prenatal vitamins in ways that reduce chance of throwing up. May even take them in halves twice a day on top of food. Other things like snacking on crackers and such can help. Do your homework and you will reap the rewards later. I know this sounds lame since the extent of your problem is so beyond this but try to rewrite your definition of throwing up and think of it as a normal sign of the miracle that will be growing in you. Good luck and hope you feel no m/s whatsoever! Have you tried talking to a doctor about this?

I was pretty sick too from my 6th to about 10 weeks, after that it leveled out. Most women don't actually get sick after 14 weeks. I think those that get sick throughout are considered to have hypermesis gravida. I was kinda nervous I would be sick throughout too b/c of all the stories, but at 14 weeks I barely felt nauseous. I was kinda like that too with throwing up, more so when I was younger. But when your pregnant, and you get that feeling, sometimes it's the only thing that helps make your tummy feel better honestly, and after awhile you get used to it like its not a big deal.

I threw up EVERY TIME i was about to eat, it was the worst thing every...and I used the preggie pops and they helped for a bit, but they did nothing for me otherwise. I'm 19weeks and I still throw up every now and then. Some doctors prescribe a medicine for nausea but it is usually only if you have severe morning sickness. But everyone is deffierent and its not genetic. You can throw up and the next person down the road won't throw up at all.

I had terrible morning sickness from the very beginning, lasting up until about 16 weeks. It was MISERABLE, I'm not going to lie. But when I did actually throw up it wasn't like throwing up chunks like when you are sick. It's mostly gagging and throwing up some fluids and saliva. At least that is how it was for me. But for me, the nausea was so bad that I would sometimes wish I would throw up more, thinking that it would make me feel some relief. Oh, how glad I am that those days are over!

Oh yeah, I tried sea bands, preggie porps, all types of ginger stuff, teas, crackers, you name it, I was willing to try it. Nothing worked. I basically would go home from work and crawl into bed and just stay there. I would spend ENTIRE weekends in my bed, I'm not even exagerating.

I am 9w 5d and I have had very little morning sickness. Once in a while I'll feel sick to my stomach, but nothing severe enough to cause vomiting.

i was nauseated and vomiting made me feel better, but i could control it ok. i might gag but could keep it down but if at home or outside i let it go cause it was relieving. mostly tho i ate lemon wedges or smelled them when eating and starting to gag, it kinda would cleanse my palate so i could finish eating with out choking. i'd order lemons at restarants and everything. it didn't last very long and the rest of pregnancy was great, well til i got the flu towards the end but that had nothing to do with being preggo. good luck i understand unusual fear a little i have a severe food aversion to most meat and felt super guilty for not eating 'better' when preggo. i tried to eat a burger in a restaraunt at 6months and burst into tears and had an anxiety attack , totally got embara__sed, everyone already looks at preggos cause they're so cute, felt like i was on stage ya know so it was awful. so ya not a dumb thing to ask. good luck

I started getting sick at 6weeks and it got worse as time went on. Nothing worked. I lost weight and became extremely dehydrated. My doctor has me on Zofran 4mg and I take one each night. I am almost 12weeks now but everytime I try to stop the Zofran it comes back. I would wake up in the middle of night to throw up. I am hoping it stops soon though. My mother on the other hand never got that sick just nausea. So of course she thinks it in my head (aren't mothers fun :) I think everyone is different.

dontwannabeme17, i know what you are going through. i am an emetophobe also. i havent vomited in 18 years...not because i havent had to, just because i wont, im sure you know what i mean....my husband wants to have a baby and i have finally agreed, fear of vomiting has always kept me from it. this is the advice i have been given by 2 other emetophobes: 1. morning sickness feels just like any other sickness...by that i mean, if you had the flu and felt like you were going to puke but laid down and let it pa__s...thats what it feels like, no different. 2. the few times they felt sick (one is on her 4th kid and the other is pregnant now w/her first) they laid down and let it pa__s, and it always did as for seabands, they work by pressing an acupuncture point in your wrist, they cant hurt. and i had to laugh at the phenergan part cause i have a prescription for compazine at all times :) bottom line is, if we have mad it this far, im thinking we'll be fine. i am so sure of it that at 33, after all these years of swearing i could never do it out of fear...we are going to start trying to get pregnant this june . if you were a person who just simply didnt LIKE vomiting but did it when necessary i would think you would do so, but every other emetophobe i know has told me they control it just as they would any other time they felt the need to throw up. i hope this helps...i feel your pain :)
