What To Expect 1 Month After Coming Off The Pill

My cycle was regular for 3 months after I came off the pill, then my next one was messed up, then I became pregnant the next one (on accident because my cycle was messed up and I didn't realize when I was ovulating). So just because your periods are irregular doesn't mean you will not become pregnant. I'm excited about being pregnant but it was a definite surprise.

Hi, I waited 5 months for my period to return last month. I was due on again last weekend so am hoping I am pregnant but it may just be that my body is still getting back to normal after coming off the pill - doing a test tonight!!

It is a good idea to wait a couple months after you get off the pill for your body to normalize and have healthy tissue for an egg to implant in.

Hello Sands, I came off the pill on October 13 and still got my period of October 17th (like expected) and then I got my period on November 17 (only three days late) so I was back to normal quick, it also depends what birth control you are on. Good Luck

hey, I just came off the pill last month, and my first period was normal. then the day my period was due this month, I had nothing but a brown discharge only when i wiped. This went on for three days. I had one day normal bleed (which was yesterday) and now its over. Is this common when coming off the pill? thanks guys!!!! **babydust **

I came off in Oct 07 after 14+ years and had my first bleed and then two periods pretty much on time but a bit light. Now I am late just when I thought it had settled down and we would be ready to start ttc! I am frustrated as I followed advice that I should allow 3 months for things to settle down and no-one told me it could take up to a year or more! I am 35 so don't feel like I have that much time - I could have come off the pill earlier if I'd know settling down period could be longer. I was going to take a test today just in case one of those condoms misfunctioned over xmas - but now having been reading about other similar experiences on the web there does not seem to be much point. Sure wich i had googled this earlier! Thea

Hey thats what I thought but I was actually pregnant, I didnt have much symptoms and I took a test when I was 8 weeks late and it was positive i must have fell pregnant straight away, so my advice is as soon as your late take a test!

WHEN MY HUSBAND AND I DECIDED TO TRY TO GET PREGNANT, I IMMEDIATLY WENT OFF THE PILL, BUT WE DECIDED TO FOLLOW DOCTOR'S SUGGESTION AND WAIT TWO CYCLES TO TRY TO CONCIEVE. MY FIRST PERIOD TOOK 6 WEEKS TO COME. IT HAS NOW BEEN 4 WEEKS SINCE THEN, AND I'M HOPING THIS PERIOD DOESNT TAKE AS LONG TO COME, BECAUSE I REALLY WANT TO START TRYING!!!!

Does anyone feel more than a little upset about the whole delayed period thing? I can't help but feel a little bit duped. My husband and I had intended to start trying early this summer, so months ago I looked into the information that Health Canada provides, starting taking prenatal vitamins, etc. Although I heard that you should wait to have 2 natural periods, if possible, I'm at day 40 off of the pill with no period in sight. Like some of you, I have constant bloating (especially after dinner...it's ridiculous). I guess had I known that the pill would throw my body for such a loop, I would have gone off of it YEARS ago. I don't think I'll take it again, frankly.

First off I will say everyone's body is different. I came off the pill almost 2 years ago and I did not become "regular" again for 4-6 months. My Doctor (no longer my Doctor) kept insisting that my body should go right back to normal and it needed no time to get used to no longer receiving the hormones from the pill. I knew that she was wrong because I know my own body. Of course it needs time to get used to it! My period did come a month later after stopping the pill, but I knew I did not ovulate. I also had gallbladder problems and have been told that the going off the pill could have exacerbated that as well. My x doctor was also insisting and pressuring me to try the ring and get right back on some sort of birth control to make my period regular. She kept saying I had PCOS, and there was no reason for her to say this since all my hormone tests were normal. Basically she just wanted to sell me the drugs. Your body will go back to normal in its own time. I would give it 6 months.

I went off the pill a week before the placebo pills. My period came a week later as expected, but was super short (barely 48 hours) and now I've started my period again almost a full week early! How long did it take for your cycles to regulate?

I've been off the pill for about a month. Three days before my 'due period' I experienced spotting, then one day a full period and then the spotting reoccurred. While I was off the pill I had intercourse with my husband which was around the same time as my fertile days, since then I've experienced headaches, b___st tenderness, and slight nausea which can be early signs of pregnancy, and the spotting could be an indication of implantation bleeding which also occurs between 5-12 days after conception, I took a pregnancy test during the spotting period but it was negative, however I've been advised to wait a few days and then retake, or see my doctor. Which is probably the best thing you can do as well, speak to your doctor and consider taking a test.
