My little guy is one week old, and when I feed him he eats for about 10-15 min on one side, then falls alseep. I try to wake him up but he doesn't want none. Sometimes he will wake up and feed on the other side but for only a couple minutes. About an hour later or so he wakes up and wants more...........I'm so confused as to when he's full or when he's hungry?? Is 10-15 min long enough for a feeding?? Seems kinda short......Anyone else experiecing this or do you have any advice??

Don't worry. It sounds pretty normal. Just feed him whenever he cries. Some babies only feed from one b___st at each feeding. It may change as he gets older. Just be sure to feed him from the side that feels fullest, or keep trach by marking your bra with a ribbon or pin. There are no set rules, just relax and go with the flow. Enjoy your baby!

I agree with Shelia. One side filled my little guy up when he was little too.

Thanks ladies, that helps! He's actually crying right now so I guess it's time to feed.....lol.

Hello, I think the only time to worry about that is if he is having little enough weight gain that his doc is concerned. My nephew was a sleeper and his doc had my SIL touch his face with an icy cold washcloth so he would get good amounts in each feeding. And actually, the time involved won't matter if your little one has a good latch and suck, but with a bottle they tell you that 4 oz in 10-20 min is ideal. Hope that helps! Congrats on your new baby!

My little one nurses for about 5-15 minutes and always has he was 5lbs 15oz at birth and is now 12lbs at 2 months. Your baby may just be a quick eater like mine. Good luck.

I found it easier to keep my son up during feedings by just feeding him with a diaper on and changing him between b___sts. I suckling and the warmth of the PJ's cause babies to fall asleep easier. If he did not complete the allotted time on the 2nd b___st, I would start with that b___st the next feeding.

I used to nurse Ben in his diaper and tickle his little feet to keep him up in the earlier days. I also didn't let him go longer than 3 hours between feedings except at night, when I would go 4 or 5 hours between feedings just once.

dani, This sounds completely normal. When Autumn was really teeny like your little guy, she nursed whenever and for however long she wanted. Sometimes, she would nurse on one side for a little while, fall asleep, nurse some more, fall asleep, nurse some more......you get the picture :-) It sounds like your little guy is doing pretty well--just nurse him whenever he's unhappy or fussy to ensure your milk supply is adequate and you will both be fine. He's used to being in your womb---one week is not a very long time compared to 9 months--when he could sleep and eat all at the same time...so he's just getting used to being outside your womb. My advice: lots of cuddling and lots of nursing!
