My wife just had a C-section for the second time. The first was almost ten yrs ago so its like our first time all over again. We just arrived home after 5 days in the hospital due to problems with the baby. My wife is experiencing heavy Swelling in both of her legs. I've been told that this could happen and it takes about a week or so for it to go down, but im pretty worried and i really dont wanna rush her back to the ER or anything but then again i dont want anything serious to happen. I was wonderning if anyone else has experienced this or knows anything i can do to help or better the situation.

Hi there, Sometimes swelling can be normal afterbirth and women experience it but sometimes it can be a signal something more serious is wrong. She should be looked at by a dr to make sure. I had preeclampsia with 2 of my pregnancies and had heavy swelling as my blood pressure hadn't be stabilized. Sometimes after delivery your blood pressure and kidney/liver functions can go out of whack post partum. BUT some women do have "normal" swelling after birth as well, so really a dr can and should only a__sess the situation. I would most definately have her looked at. Good luck.

I agree with lovemy3. I had this with my first and third babies (they were born in the summer, 2nd was born in winter and I didn't have it). Anyway, they will want to check her for the reasons lovemy3 gave. They checked me for it, but for me it was just "normal". It subsided after about 2 weeks.

it is really important to report this to your doctor..it can be normal but it can also sometimes signal a blood clot in one of the legs or somewhere in the body...it would be best for her to be checked out..
