I've had heart surgery about 8 yrs ago. I spoke to my cardiologist and my obgyn about having a c-section because of my own personal issues due to the heart surgery. They promise me that everything is fine now and that there is no reason not to have a va___al birth. It seems like they are making the decision for me. If this is the way I feel most comfortable delivering my baby, do they have the right to deny me?

no they can not really deny you, but if you can have it natural it would be better c's are hard on your body and can cause alot of problems later due to the scar tissue....i would at least try if i were you but it is your right to do whatever you want too....

Yes, hospitals/doctors/insurance companies have polices, and have the right to deny women a chosen method of birth based on many factors, mainly liability and insurance. This usually is the case with a VBAC, as many doctors' insurance companies will not cover them if they do a VBAC. It is not always the woman's choice, if she chooses to give birth under the care of a certain doctor or within a certain hospital. You should ask your doctor more directly, if you have the legal right to make the choice. In some states you do, and others you do not.

Different doctors have different views on performing elective c-sections but also remember that no doctor can force you into having a v____al delivery. If your present doctor refuses to perform a section because he or she does not think it is for valid medical reasons, I am sure you will be able to find a doctor who is more open minded or who will agree to your request. A doctor may not see your reasons for wanting a c-section as medically warranted ones but the emotional well being and health of the mother is critical to the health of the baby and therefore your emotional well being should be considered a medical reason. You should NOT have to go through your pregnancy all stressed out. If your request is denied by other doctors as well, with the stress this may cause you, you may end up having an emergency c-section. A planned c-section is much easier on a woman than an emergency one. But if a doctor agrees to your request after he or she explains to you all of the potential risks involved with the surgery and the doctor is satisfied that you understand all of the risks, he will be setting your mind at ease and therefore will be allowing you to have a normal, healthy and hopefully as stress free a pregnancy as possible.
