Left Sided Abdominal Swelling And Pain After C Section

I am meeting w/ my OB/GYN surgeon today. I had my gallbladder removed on 9/15, they took photos of my uterus, which appears to have adhered to the abdominal wall during the healing process after my c-section (17 mos ago). I'll know more after my appt today. Anyone have this happen after a c-section??

Can anyone give me any advice that may help in my consultation tomorrow. I am now seeing a general surgeon. My 2nd C-section was 18 months ago and ever since I have had left-sided pain. There is not really a lump there, certainly not a visible one - but the point of pain is very specific (about two inches above the left end of my scar). It hurts to push on this point and it is generally tender and intermittently I get a shooting pain that arcs down to my scar. My gynae does not think it is anything to do with my section/s. He also does not think it is a hernia as it would be an unusual place to get one. Can anyone give me any ideas or suggestions for when I see the general surgeon tomorrow...that will help in getting a resolution to this problem? thanks my email is sherrymprosser@aol.com.

I had a c-sectin 3 weeks ago today and am having upper abdominal pain. It is a constant aching pain. Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

I had C-section 6 years ago and for the last year I have been having this burning pain in my lower right pelvic area. I have had a CT scan, Viginal Ultrasound and hernia surgery(found out that I had a small one thought that was the problem but it's not the pain still there. This pain comes at the beginning of my cycle and I only get about a week and a half relief and then it starts again when my cyle starts. This is getting worse. Does anyone have this kind of pain? Need some relief.

I met w/ my OB/GYN and took w/ me the photos from the laporoscopy from the removal of my gall bladder. Turns out my uterus (from the c-section) "healed" to the abdominal wall. "Abdominal Adhesion". The OB/GYN couldn't tell from the photos if it was also attached to the bladder, and didn't seem too concerned. He indicated that "it does happen" and didn't really seem too concerned about it. Said it's "nice to have a heads up that it's like that for when you have another baby via c-section". That's about it. Hope this helps.

Thank you for your help Audry. I will let my OB/GYN check that for me. My first OB/GYM that delivered my baby said that it was probably a nerve caught in the incision and he told me that I should just deal with the pain. I went to another OB/GYN and he has been running different tests and his next step is to do the Laporoscopic surgery to see is he can see any adhesion and is any of my organs are attached to my abdominal wall.

had 4 c-sections and yes, I had severe adenomyosis for years before I got my blessed hysterectomy! I had hideously painful, close together, messy, clotting periods (sorry, its actually worse than I described here) that just got worse and worse and worse. Since I never dilated past 1.5 cm during my 37 and 1/2 hour futile labor w/first child my cerivx was a "virgin", with adnemyosis you literally have to go into labor each month to expel the huge clumps of lining consistant with the disease. Unbearable, and life altering after a while as "accidents" ie. bleeding through tampons and a pad while at the grocery store, etc. I hate c-sections for what they did to me, I think they are a horrible, but necessary last resort. while I am grateful for my life and that of my children, I will never appreciate the long-lasting side effects of them. Good Luck, and don't wait too long for that hysterectomy, it made the hugest difference in my quality of life after all that scarring and spongy uterus were gone!

Cynthia: glad I could help, my OB/GYN certainly relieved my worries. I had severe endometriosis before I had my baby 17 months ago, so I was worried from the photos the Gallbladder doc gave me that my uterus was attached because of the endo. But it was the c-section. My left ovary was attached to the abdominal wall due to endo, that was years ago, they detached it and wrapped it in a dissolving mesh (so it wouldn't re-attach) and I've had no problems w/ it since. So, whatever it may be, be it nerve damage, adhesions, endo, whatever...I hope it comforts you to know you are not alone! Take care, Audry

I posted my problem once before, but was cuious if anyone has incisional endometriosis pain after their period? This is the one question the doctor can't answer me.

nellie - October 9

Kriston, when I've been reading about incisional endometriosis it mentions you can also be sore when ovulating, this may be caused when you have a cyst and the egg is trying to pa__s down, apparently it ruptures it and causes this pain each month. I get sore then. The pain reaches round my hip & back.

i have had 3 c-sections and am having incisional pain and tenderness still now 5 months later. This did not happen with the others. I had a cat scan to find no hernia or adhesions. My guess is that it is just plain mad after being cut so many times!!!!!

i have 3 children, 2 of which were brought into this world by emergency c-sections. Both sections had a lot of complications. Now here i am reading that all of you have the same issues that i do. My last section was 2 yrs ago, and now for the last 4mths i have had pain so bad in my left side that i cant function at times. i have been to emerg. 2 times and they did all the tests and nothing. The second time the doc. wouldn't even give me anything for the pain because he said that there was nothing wrong with me...i decided that night that i would have to just deal with it, because the dr.s now thought that i was just looking for a fix. but today i have an appt with my general pract_tioner and i am armed with info and knowing that i am not alone and that i am not crazy. My pain is real...it's the dr that doesnt get it. oh and by the way has anyone had wild periods with this. by this i mean of the last 9 wks i have been on for a combined total of 7 wks? as well has anyone had the pain go right into their hip bone or had any major weightloss? thank you all so much! i know that it sounds silly but i feel better just knowing that i am not alone

Nellie - October 13

Robin, I get pain around my right hip bone, last month, just before I took my period early, it was really sore, it reached as far round as my back, strangely this time though my stomach hasn't been as sore during my period, don't know why, as usually its quite sore at the moment. I had started to think I was pregnant, but my test was positive. Don't know what was going on.

Nellie - October 13

sorry I mean't my test was negative>>>

emmah - October 13

to those asking about pain : mine extends into my hip, around my back and sometimes right down the side of my leg. I get more pain with ovulation than with my period usually. Although my incisional endo 'lump' is sensitive to touch it usually doesnt hurt much without being touched - unlike the hip/back/leg pain which can be excruicating and like period pain is just there - it doesn't need to be prodded to set it off!

Suzanne - October 18

Emma, Liza, and any others that may be able to provide some insight: I am currently 20 months post-c-section, with increasing pain that typically starts with my period, and abates shortly after ovulation. Based on my own reading of the medical literature (I too also conduct medical research in my career - PhD, not MD), my personal "differential" is nerve entrapment vs. incisional endometrioma. I have a GP and a GYN who are definitely taking me seriously. The latter would like to schedule surgery to open up the scar and remove the presumed endometriosis. My questions are as follows: What type of pain do all of you have with these two diagnoses? Mine is a burning pain, not unlike a terrible sunburn. Light touch (e.g., underwear, clothing) is the absolute worst stimulus. I also get shooting pains. These originate at the left end of my incision, and radiate out about three or four inches, and lately, down as far as my iliac crest. The pain feels very "external" to me. It does NOT feel crampy or dull or throbbing or deep. I do have swelling near this site, just above the incision, and this, combined with the cyclical nature, suggest incisional endometrioma. But, the doctor says the intensity of the pain (as in, I am getting very desperate, and it affects my functioning and definitely my quality of life) and the larger radius are not consistent with an endometrioma (which leads to me to consider nerve entrapment). I think I'm going to suggest he try a.) a biopsy, and/or b.) hormone therapy, and/or c.) nerve block to try and sort out the diagnosis before I have additional surgery, seeing as that's what started this in the first place. I have confidence that my GYN is a good one, but even he admits that these complications are supposedly totally rare, and he has done few similar procedures. I work in an academic medical setting, and these are good, experienced docs who keep up with the medical literature. I'll stop now - would just be very interested in people's specific descriptions of their pain, as related to confirmed diagnoses of incisional endometrioma and nerve entrapment. Thanks much.
