Hello,
Hi, I'm 7 weeks pregnant and have been taking Heparin injections twice a day ever since finding out I'm pregnant (in the hope of preventing miscarriage.... I've already had 6 miscarriages). Is it just me, or do these needles really hurt? I find I can't wear a belt anymore as it hits the injection sites, and my belly is covered with really gross bruises. If anyone here has any tips or comments, I'd love to hear them.

Hi nic - I totally understand - I inject Lovenox once a day since 7 weeks. I'm now 17 weeks, 4 days. Its terrible. My belly is black and blue all the time too. Try going in on an angle and depressing the plunger slowly - I find that the worst part for me is the medicine burning. I read that icing the spot that you are going to inject helps some people but I didn't find it helpful - but maybe its something for you to try. Sorry - the injections stink - there is no way around it.

Thanks for answering Cap - I didn't think anyone was going to! At least your injections are just once a day! But it rea__sures me to know you're getting the bruising too -wasn't sure if it was just me or what! Yeah, it's not the needle so much that hurts, but when you start plunging the med in. I'm diabetic so I'm well used to injecting myself but the heparin liquid hurts far more than insulin!! Hopefully we'll both have good pregnancies!

Sorry I couldn't be of more help. I started wearing maternity clothes really early because I couldn't stand the hardware on my pants rubbing against my bruises - so your definitely not alone - Good Luck!

I've started to inject in the 2 inch space above my belly b___ton - this way I can wear jeans with a belt and it comes nowhere near my injection sites. It also hurts less here too - you should give it a go!

Thanks nic. I'll try that tonight. Why do they have you on heparin - if you don't mind me asking - I have a clotting disorder (homozygous MTHFR and I'm borderline protein S deficient) - I threw a blood clot about 9 years ago.

Well, I've been tested for the clotting disorders and don't seem to have them, but because I've had 6 early miscarriages the doctor thinks the heparin might help.

Are you taking asprin also? I take a baby asprin in addition to the Lovenox . Sorry to hear about the m/c's. I hope that the heparin does the trick.

Yep, I'm taking baby aspirin as well, though this week I'm not taking either the aspirin or the heparin, as I've been bleeding again.

Nic - how are you feeling? I hope all is well. One other thread you might find helpful is the one for MTHFR - if you run that as a search it will come up - a lot of people have similar problems.

hi Cap! I'm good - I'm 11 weeks now and not taking heparin because I've been bleeding a lot. Thanks for the tip re: that other thread - I'll check it out!

I had 5 miscarriages before this pregnancy. I did take the shots near the bellyb___ton but it did not hurt that bad not I got bruises. Who is injecting the shots? Maybe you should talk to your doc.
