Throwing Up Due To Heartburn

Am I the only one? I am almost 31 weeks pregnant and have been suffering with hb for 3 months. I have taken everything including Prevacid. Nothing works. I throw up b/c of it. Is anyone else experiencing this?

I am 33 weeks. At 31weeks I woke up choking and gasping for air---I was taken to the hospital by ambulance. They said it was caused by acid reflux (GERD) because of the pregnancy. I was sent home with prevacid and an antibiotic just in case I aspirated anything into my lungs. I could barely talk for two days because the acid had burned my throat. I feel for you.

Thank you for responding. I thought I was the only one. I wake up gagging for air every night. DId you find the prevacid helped you?

I have only experienced heartburn once so far, I am 25 weeks, i took Gaviscon liquid and a mug of warm water. I felt a million dollars afterwards and slept through the night after that. It is handy to have close at hand.

In case you don't already know it also is helpful to raise the head of the bed by putting wood under the bed posts at the head of the bed (elevate 6-8 inches). We put 3 short pieces of 2x4 lumber under ours. Home depot will cut the lumber for you. Good luck!

karen- I have been suffering from acid reflux for a few years now. Many times I have thrown up b/c the reflux is so bad. I am now 8 weeks pg and it has gotten worse, so I just try to be more careful what I eat. I take Nexium 40mg...I have tried ALL the different kinds, inc. Prevacid. I believe Nexium is the best, maybe ask your Dr. for a sample?? In addition, try to avoid acidic foods. I rarely eat tomatoes (which sucks b/c I love pasta, but the pain isn't worth it!) I also try to avoid spicy foods, love Mexican food, try to avoid that too. If you must have pasta or something you know gives you trouble, be sure you have taken your meds and drink a BIG gla__s of milk with it (don't know why, but it seems 2% works best for me) Also, don't lay down if you're having HB...only makes it worse. I have slept many nights in a recliner b/c the acid stays down that way. Oh, one other thing I do is when I do eat spaghetti or lasagna or something, eating a nice sized helping of cottage cheese seems to help too and it's a nice compliment to the pasta. Hope I have been of some help!!!

I'm 35 weeks and that started for me around 28 weeks REAL bad. I had to sleep sitting up in bed and I would wake up and drink big gla__ses of milk which stopped helping after a while. Sometimes it would cause me to throw up. I was so miserable! I told my doctor and he prescribed me Provinix, I think its called. It's a miracle pill, I haven't had heartburn since!

I am currently 29 weeks, and I have had bad hb since about week 19. The only thing that has helped me is maximum strength pepcid ac, and not eating anything saucy like pizza or lasagna. When the acid backs up into your mouth and throat, that is the worst taste and feeling! It really hurts!
