Cara, I am wondering if you are reading my mind! I'm almost 19 weeks pregnant and have been cramping since the start. The last two weeks have been more intense (and SCARY). I have a tilted uterus (backwards and sideways) but have no idea if it has corrected itself. All doctors and u/s technicians seem to b__w it off as not a big deal and quite common. I was in to the dr. twice last week to investigate but all seems fine (in fact, perfect) with the baby and no explanation for me for the cramping. Braxton Hicks can start this early, though the contractions should be more uncomfortable than painful, dehydration can make your uterus more sensitive, your bladder, bowels and other organs in the region that your uterus might be resting on are very "nervy" or sensitive by nature. You should definitely ask your dr. about a possible bladder/kidney infection which can be easily cleared up with pregnancy safe medicine and can cause similar pains. A urinalysis tells them within the day. All in all, it could be many things is what I'm told. I'm always told to go back if they get worse and that no question/concern is dumb. Bottom line is that if you are not bleeding (as is the case with me too), and infection and thinning of cervix are ruled out, you're fine. Go talk to your dr. and have your anatomical scan - you're due soon anyways (16-20 weeks). You will see baby moving around and, in our case, sucking HER thumb. Don't get me wrong, I still worry endlessly :)

All your stories have been so rea__suring. I went for my first chk up at 6 weeks and the doc did an intrav____al ultrasound, they cdn't find the baby at first, however the second PA realised i had a tilted uterus and then we saw the baby however did not hear the heartbeat. I was worried at first however after reading your stories i feel a whole lot better, i have my second ultrasound next week. Will the stomach one work at 7 weeks or will i need to take another intrav____al one?
Thanks!

I had my first v____al US done at 7 weeks Monday. They measured me at 5 weeks which I guess is correct. I also have a tipped uterus and all I seen was the sac. I was told this is normal though I just hope in two weeks I can see the heartbeat I am so nervous but your posts are rea__suring. Thanks

Did anyone have an issue where the tech was not able to get a good reading on the heart rate b/c of having a tilted uterus? I had one done a few days ago and they are sending me back next week, b/c they are afraid the heart rate is too low. The Tech was frustrated b/c she new the rate was higher but just couldn't geta good reading.

I didn't know I had a tilted uterus until after I had my twins. I found out what I was having via ultrasound when I was 16 weeks pregnant.

I also just found out I have a tilted uterus. If they use a v____al u/s, they should be able to see the baby at the normal time. We saw mine at 8w4d, no problem. If your u/s person doesn't know to go transv____al for you, you probably should see a different provider. The only complications I know of during pregnancy are: 1: Worse constipation 2: Possible bladder problems if it doesn't untilt. When you're not pregnant it can cause: 1-Painful s_x 2-Painful periods.

Normally a tilted uterus is no big deal at all unless it doesn't push back into a more normal positioning which it usually does by the end of first or beginning of second trimester.
Women with tilted uteri do tend to see their babies later than average and are more often told they are a week or two behind. However, during the second trimester when the uterus is back in a more normal position, their dates look right on again.
My dates were exact and we couldn't see my baby at the 8 week u/s and then at 8w5d's there she was. Some women are between 7 and 11 weeks (and have even read a few cases of women even further along) before they can see their babies on transv____al u/s. Often they are misdiagnosed blighted ova but for those women who choose to wait and have a natural miscarriage, like myself, they will sometimes find their babies. Some do go on to miscarry but some do not.
If you have a tilted uterus and cannot see the baby on the ultrasound, hold off on the D&C and read the stories at www.misdiagnosedmiscarriage.com The stories can give a lot more information.

I was never told I had a tilted uterus with my first 2 children and had regular ultrasounds. But, now in my 3rd pregnancy, I was told I had a tilted uterus. Did previous childbirth cause this>?

Yes, Previous Pregnancy can cause your uterus to become tilted. I have never actually been diagnosed as tilted uterus. When I was about 18, my then gyn told me "your uterus tilts slightly to the back" last year at my annual exam the doc (a different doc) told me "everything feels absolutely normal" and at my six week checkup (I'm now 10 weeks) the midwife said "whoa... yours is way back there" when she did the pelvic exam. So I'm not sure if its tilted or just farther back than most peoples?. I do know that just in the past couple of days I've been getting the feeling like my bladder is full but when I go, hardly anything comes out & I'm wondering if it's because my uterus is pressing too much on the bladder? or maybe this is just normal? any ideas anyone?

My doc said that constipation is the worst symptom of this problem. You will also start to show a little earlier and be sure to empty your bladder by leaning forward when you urinate. My mom has the same problem and carried for great kids :) most times it will straighten itself out naturally, and its not a problem. :)

I had a sonogram at 8 weeks, no problem *mind you with enough water to sink a boat* If they have trouble, they'll do a trans v____al scan. I'm carrying lower than most people I know, don't know whether that's related or not... from what I understand, after your uterus get's a little bigger, it kind of plops forward like everyone elses (my belly seemed to pop out dramatically over a week or so after not showing for 14 weeks) In the few weeks before I "popped" I did have extreme pressure in my pelvis, with heamrrhoids and pain and some trouble emptying my bladder, but as far as I know, a tilted uterus is not a medical issue but a variation of the normal
