False Negative Blood Test Pg1270777470

I'm 23 years old, I have two boys who are 3 and 4. I am on the Mirena IUD (2.5yrs) and I think I might be pregnant. I've had symptoms for the last couple weeks, but I didn't think twice bc I thought I was safe. I'm very well of the risks, thats why I'm so worried about this. My br___ts have been so sore, I've been extremely fatigued, some foods smell and taste funny, I've had some nausea, my tummy is lookin poofy and I've gained 5 lbs, I've had odd feelings 'in there' that I had in my early pregnancies with my boys, and those are just a few off the top of my head. I don't get any of this as pms...these are things that have only happened when I was pregnant. Problem is that I've had a negative HPT and my blood test 3 days ago was also negative! I have no idea when my period should be...I thought the beginning of the month, but its not here. I stopped keeping track so I don't know exact dates. I assumed with my symptoms the blood test would come back positive. But, I've read that some women don't get positive HPT's and blood tests for months. I've also read that it could also be twins (something about the hormones can throw the tests off or something I dont quite remember). Has anyone experienced any of this? False negative and ended up pregnant? How long did it take to come out positive? Were you on BC at the time? Any help/support would be great right now! :)

I thought twins boosted the hCG level. Ectopic pregnancy can hold it down. It's extremely rare not to get a positive hpt by the time a second period is missed. If you continue to worry, a quant_tative blood test is more definitive than a qualitative, and you can't argue with an ultrasound. Maybe your body has become over sensitive to the hormone being released by the Mirena, and this is giving signs of pregnancy. GL!

I twins do boost the hCG level, but on a study I read....if I remember correctly it has something to do with the way the hormones are produced. I'll look for it and if I can find it again I'll post it. It was interesting whether it has anything to do with me or not. I am worried about an ectopic pregnancy because of the Mirena. I expected my doctor to do an ultrasound just in case, since she too thought I was pregnant and being pregnant with Mirena is so risky. She was confused when the urine test came back negative. I was almost sure the blood test would come back positive but it didnt. She had her staff call and give me the results and they had no idea if the doc wanted to see me again. So I a__sumed she's not too worried about it. The doc did say that if were to have any side effects from the IUD that I should have had them when I first got it, not 2 and a half years later. Thanks for commenting! :)

I read that 10% of women with Mirena develop an ovarian cyst. This can give signs of pregnancy. Bounce this off your gyn! GL!
