My doctor suggested ligaments, also, with my first pregnancy. I can buy into the air thing, too.

I heard that sound with my first child. It sounds like someone biting their nails or clicking their fingernails. My doctor was baffled about it too. He thought maybe hiccups.

I HAVE HEARD THE CLICL FOR WEEKS NOW AND I AM 38 WEEKS PREG. I FEEL IT EVERYTIME LITTLE ANNA MOVES.... SO LOGIC TELLS ME ITS HER JOINTS, MY KNEED POP ALL THE TIME, I GUESS SHE TAKES AFTER ME. IT DOESNT HAPPEN WHEN SHE HAS HICCUPS, WHICH IS OFTEN SO I KNOW ITS NOT THAT AND IF I ASSOCIATED POPPING WITH LIGAMENTS I WOULD BE HORRIFIED TO THINK MY LIGAMENTS ARE STRETCHING TOO MUCH TO THE POINT OF POPPING... GOOD LUCK TO EVERY ONE.... I CANT WAIT FOR JULY 23RD!!!!

Okay, so I was in denial for a few days, but I have heard my 2-week-old daughter's joints crack a couple of times. It's not quite the same sharp sound I heard when she was inside me, but I may have to lean more towards the baby's joints cracking theory more than the ligaments. It's not a scary cracking noise though. It seems normal to me. I'll ask her pediatrician when we go in next week!

Wow this post surprised me as i had just had a talk with a friend who recently gave birth. We were talking about how long it takes the elly to go down(deflate) after giving birth and she said every now and then she felt /heard a popping sound in the stomach area as it slowly shrunk. I had never heard this before and now i have read this thread i beleive it must have something to do with the ligaments etc stretching (and in her case shrinking) due to pregnancy.

I Just heard it like 10 minutes ago for the first time! It was very alarming which is why i've looked it up! it was several pops consecutively for 3 to 4 seconds...i was bending down to pick up my pen! It not only felt very weird but sounded strange too! I hope everything is alright!

mine is only one at a time. I think the most I've heard is one every 10 minutes.

I have the same thing. The clicking only happens when the baby kicks or moves around a lot. It's not hiccups and he's not hitting any of my bones or anything. I found this website and it lists TONS of women who have the same thing going on.

My girl's pediatrician said that all of the theories are valid. The reason they don't have an answer to what it is, is because they'd have to put a camera inside, and it wouldn't be worth the risk. So, she said it could be her bones cracking, which is fine because they're just not mature yet...it's completly normal, and common. It could have been my ligaments stretching, and she suggested it could have been baby making noises with her mouth. She said it only makes sense that we can hear them since they can hear us. Guess we'll never know for sure, but at least it's something not to worry about!

I'm so glad I found this thread! I am 38wks and have been hearing these noises for at least the past 2 months. I asked a friend about it who just gave birth and she looked at me like I was crazy! So I haven't asked my doctor! All the theories sound good to me. I was thinking my ligaments or baby's joints before I even found this. Glad to know I'm not completely strange!!

I'm 37 weeks and just started hearing this noise in the past few days. Like other posters said, it happens when I am sitting or lying still and the baby is being active. I'm guessing it's the baby's bones cracking because my knees and toes crack all the time (always have) but it's rea__suring to hear that other women are hearing the same thing.
