Can someone have their hair colored while pregnant? Or will it be harmful to the fetus?

thats what i was wondering, i figure if its non-peroxide based it'd be okay, but my family says if i dye my hair my baby will be deformed.

went to the hairdressers about 2 weeks ago,advised not to have hair coloured until after the baby is born.thats all i know
