My son will have his babtism on Dec. 4. My mother in law wants to make a gown for him. I really don't want my son to wear a gown. I would rather him wear something more for a boy. My second problem is that she wants to make a gown worth hundreds of dollars (the fabric alone cost $300/yard) and pass in down in the family. I want an outfit that my son can keep with him. I still have mine and had it framed. Should I just let her make a gown or do you think it would be okay for me to have another one made for him to wear after the babtism at a luncheon that I'm going to have?

you are the mother...you should have the say in what your son wears to his baptism. if she wants desperately to make this expensive gown for him to wear at the baptism and you are okay with that, then have that done...but if you truly want something other than that for him to wear afterwards, like a cute little boy suit, that's fine too! It's going to be a wonderful occa__sion, relax and enjoy it.
