Teaching Baby To Hold His Own Bottle

What age should baby be able to hold their own bottle? What is the best way to start teaching it. My son is 6 months and today a family member told me he should be holding it by now. I got paranoid now that he is behind with it.

Dont be paranoid. My daughter was the same way. She was about 12 months til she held it on her own. My daughter would hold her bottle for my husband, but when I was around she wouldn't. Little Stinker! :)~ Anyhow, now she holds it on her own and wont let anyone hold it. She is now 14 months and we are trying to break her of the bottle. She only gets the bottle at nap time and night time. Otherwise she gets the sippy cup.

My baby can hold his own (5 months) but not for long periods of time. Family memebers LOVE to tell us how our kids should be developing. Every child is different and I am sure that holding the bottle is not a developmental milestone to be concerned with. Rest easy:) Some babies are lazier than others. Mine still has not rolled over.

i wouldn't worry about it, kids will learn in their own time. Buying a bottle with the liner (playtex nursers) might make it easier for him/her to learn because they don't have to tip it as well as hold it to get formula out of it.. As for the comments just tell them, as far as doctor's and child developement agencies are concerned, babies should be held while being fed a bottle until they are 6 months old for bonding and security reasons. (i have a dayhome and that is standard policy for us, whether the child knows how or not)

Don't you just love family members giving advice when they really don't have any knowledge to back it up? My twins are 9 months old and are just starting to try and hold their bottles. They can pick it up and get the nipple in their mouths but they don't know to tip the bottle up. They'll get there eventually, I can't wait, my arms are tired!
