When Do I Need A Crib

I live in a 1 bedroom condo so space is VERY limited. The baby will of course be in the bedroom with me but I'm wondering if I need a crib right away. What about a bassinet - is that a waste of money? I also would like him to sleep with me initially and I have one of those Deluxe snuggle nest things, but I need to have a place to put him for naps, etc. I could squeeze a crib into my room if I had to, but just wondering what is the best thing to do.

I used my pack n play a lot for nap time cus it was in the tv room where we were. I used a ba__sinet in my bedroom till she was 4 wks old but to be quite honest, she slept in our bed most of the time! Now her crib is in my room and she's 7 wks old. You could get a used ba__sinet pretty cheap but it depends on how quick he/she will outgrow it. Emma could touch both sides when she was 4 wks old and she was only like 8-9 lbs and it just seemed too small.

My baby was in her ba__sinett till she was 5 months old. We bought a second hand one because i didn't see the sense in buying new for something she wouldn't be in for very long. It is safer and easier when they wake every few hours.

For those of us who don't have any money to spend on extras (not even a ba__sinet), I just wanted to let you know that my girlfriend used a crib for her baby from birth to the time he needed a regular bed, and he's just fine. There are cribs of all sizes too... just make sure you get one that meets safety regulations (with how far apart the bars are from each other, stuff like that).

I would say you do not need a crib from the get go. You could buy a ba__sinet and then sell it in the paper (for some money to put towards a crib and to get it out of the way) If you are wanting the baby to sleep with you then I wouldnt worry about a ba__sinet or anything. I would look into a pack n play (you can use it for a long time!) and let him nap in it.

Hi Angela- Have you thought of using the Snuggle Nest while you can and then deciding what to buy? You could let the baby nap there (in the snug nest) as well. It is also good because once the baby outgrows it you can use it as a place to change him. :)

My daughter is 2.5 months and still sleeps in a moses basket next to us. She hated it at first, but she soon got used to it, and now I'm worried she'll have trouble adjusting to her cot. We'll have to move her soon, because she's almost grown out of the basket. I feel quite sad about that actually. :(

You never need a crib. In fact we ended up selling outs when our first was 6 months old. It was just used as a huge toy box! If you are going to have your baby in bed with you (we did) you can also use your bed for napping. We pushed our bed up against the walls and got 2 removable bed rails. The bed rails fold up store under the bed.
