Why Juice

Why should you give your infant/toddler juice? How much juice do you give them a day? Should you dilute it? At what age did you start? Do you give your infant/toddler water? How much water do you give them a day?

I give my son 100% juice just so he gets the vitamin C. Four or Five ounces a day is what I give him, I dilute it though. Maybe two ounces with water after breakfast and two or three ounces with water around dinner. I started giving him juice at 6 months (dr. recommended it)and since he gets juice with water I don't give him water separately.

I am not really for juice....but when I do give my 5 year old juice I dilute it... Yes my 5 year old....he has never even had soda. I want to do the same thing with my baby 4 month old I will give him water, fresh sqeezed juice and milk...but thats it.

Pear juice is easiest on their digestive tract and intestines, according to my doc Sears bible... I stopped giving my son juice bc like yogurt, it gives him the runs. Juice is healthy if it has no sucrose and is 100% juice (fructose). My son loves water more than anything. He drinks only a couple ounces a day with meals, and is 8.5 months old. There is nothing wrong with adding some healthy fluids to your child's diet, if they are on solids, or are dehydrated from diarrhea, or maybe they are thirsty from the dry/cold weather even though they had milk recently. I think it's a bit weird that some don't think that babies get thirsty.

I also diluted my juice. Half juice, half water.

my daughter started getting juice when she was about one year old - 1/2 orange juice with calcium and 1/2 water. she only gets it at breakfast time - about 5/6 ounces. after that it's water all day, including meals since she refuses to drink milk. but she loves water, especially with an ice cube in it.

I only give water. Juice is mainly sugar. Don;t need any mor energy to be created. Also juice is much harder to clean up off the floor, carpet especially.
