how do doctors know when your exact due date is...i know its a prox. but what the science around it

The "average" size of a fetus a any given stage of gestation is known. Based on that info your doc can tell about how far along you are. It's pretty close when you take into account info provided by the woman LMP etc. But because they are 'averages' they can be off on the EDD if you are genetically predisposed to haveing bigger or smaller than 'average' sized babies.
