When can you start the baby on water. Or when did anyone start there baby on water and how did it go? thank you

I did not start Asjani on water until after I introduced solids to her at 6 months. My pediatricians told me not to give her water while I was b___stfeeding, because it would cause an electorlyte imbalance. Asjani sips a little water at a time. She does not like it.

i started my little one on water at 2 weeks old. she is now 5 weeks and takes about 3 ozs a day. i started doing it b.c she was wanting to eat before her 3 hours and now she is use to it. i also put alittle gripe water in it and it makes it takes better

My pediatrician told me I could give up to two ounces of water a day, because we're using Enfamil Lipil and he said it causes constipation. My baby's doesn't have a huge appet_te, so I usually don't give her water because I don't want her to fill up on it and not have room for formula. When we start solids I'll start giving her water.

KFish - November 29

my son did not have any water until he turned one year old. My pediatrician reported that water has no nutritional value for an infant and it could cause the baby to have their stomachs full. Once he had regular meals and I stopped b___stfeeding, he got water with snacks rather than juice.

I don't give these water. Only milk between meals and juice at meals.

Right from birth my doc said my son could have a few oz a day if constipated. I only usually give a little bit to him when he is having trouble having a bowel movement.

I don't give my 3mo old water bc of what KFish said. I will, however, start giving him some when he starts solids.

NOT NEEDED - November 30

michelle and mommy to lucas are you mad? It does nothing but fill their stomach. Not suitable at that age let alone from birth. Later from 5 months and earlier if only its hot weather. Boiled water though which has cooled.

michelle - November 30

not needed.. why would you think that we are mad? i started my baby out on water b/c she was extremley jondice and constipated and my doctor told me that it was ok, i wish that i would have started my 3 year old on it early that way she would like it and drink it now. and to not needed are you a doctor??

Rachael mommy2lucas - November 30

Thank you for your concern, but I am not "mad". Quite happy, thank you. I don't feed my son bottles of water and nothing else, you idiot. He maybe has 1-2 oz per day, usually only if he is constipated. He is on formula that has iron in it so occasionally he needs the extra water in his intestines to get him to go. My doctor has no issues with it, was told it was okay from the start. My son is super healthy, gains weight beuatifully, and has not been sick yet. Anonymously asking people if they are mad for how they take care of their kids is ignorant. Do you have a medical degree, or just have your head up you rear end?

Thank you to all for your input.

I DONT KNOW WHAT KIND OF DOCTORS YOU ARE SEEING BUT IT FILLS THEM UP, MAKES THEM THINK THEY ARE FULL AND IS USELESS. FORMULA IS MOSTLY WATER. I SAID LATER ON AFTER A FEW MONTHS BUT NOT STUPIDLY RIGHT FROM BIRTH. MOST BABIES ARE BORN JAUNDICE MICHELLE. YOU BOTH NEED TO GET A BOOK TO READ. WATER IS NOT THE CURE FOR CONSTIPATION. MOMMY TO LUCAS YOU ARE JUST AS NAIEVE.

My midwife told me not for 6 months. i have heard lots of things. Each child is different so perhaps ask your doctor. I give my daughter little bits now cause its summer and she is now 6 months old, well i gave her some a few weeks ago.

FF - November 30

wow not needed- nice medical degree! rachaelmommy2lucas has given me some very good advice and support on this forum and i'm sure michelle has answered some of my posts as well. if you want to start a fight go somewhere else!

You know you are supposed to wash baby's mouth with a cloth after feeding? I just feel real bad sticking my fingers with a cloth to the back of her throat to wipe. It gags her. Surely a bit of water to help wash any remnants down is okay, isn't it?

kate - December 1

we gave our daughter water at 6 months. just a bit here and there because she was still nursing and getting plenty of water that way. now she's a year and a half and she gets water all day long in a sippy cup (and she LOVES it) - only orange juice with calcium in the morning with breakfast, and no milk or juices the rest of the day - most juices i think are pointless and milk - she hates it.
