Hi, I'm 38 weeks + 4 and have been in early labour for coming upto 4 days i'm exhausted and wondering if anyone can advise me of natural methods to help. Monday (4pm) 1cm, cervix soft and upfront, Tuesday (7pm) 2-3cm with stong contractions all day and night. (told we'd have baby that night!) Wenesday (10pm) 3cm. Thursday morning (now) contractions have stopped! I'm feeling desperate. We're booked for a home birth, on Wednesday pm they offered me to come into hospital for some pethodine to get some rest. Managed to get some sleep last night finally! Wondering if I can do anything to speed it along. Each time contractions stop we have s_x to get them started, they re-start immediatly, however this is exhausting in itself! Going to try and have some accupunture today. My poor husbands been off work with me and is wasting precious time as our first baby isn't here yet! Help! Thanks

Hi, I know exactly how you are feeling, I to am 38 weeks 6days. I am 3cm and was told that I should have the baby by tomorrow but I am not having any contractions, I wish I knew a way to bring on the labor. I have noticed that when I eat pineapple is when I start having contractions but that is all. And I know my husband too is getting desperate and feels as though this will never happen. I hope the best for you, and if nothing else talk to your midwife or obst. about stripping your membranes. You never know what will happen! : )

Thanks Tiffany.. Had accupunture today and fresh pinnaple with no avail! S_x got them started again this morning, but still no further dilated. The midwifes won't do a membrane sweep as I'm 38 weeks and will only do this once i'm term, although i've had 6 v examinations! The reality is this could go on for weeks. After a while contractions slow and only s_x makes them more intense, intensive enough to affect my sleep but not to make me dilate! We phoned several private hospitals today and only the Portland will take me for a private induction, its day light robbery! but I think we are going to head up there tomorrow morning. We live 3 hours away! Annoyed as I have a beautiful heated birthing pool in our living room and wanted natural/drug free/home birth! However saying that, I want the baby out more... wishing you & your husband the best xx

Hi ladies, hope I can offer some help. I am also going on my 38th week and with my last baby, was 2cm dialated and having false labour for a week. I bought a bottle of caster oil and drank two ounces straight. Some people need to mix it with soup or juice but I was at the point where I could and would do anything to start labour. I do warn, if you have a weak stomache, mix it with something or have a juice chaser close by. Anyway, after I drank the caster oil, I was on the toilet for about an hour, and once that was over, and my body was "cleaned out", I began having hard contractions, my daughter was born five hours later, healthy as could be. Some people say it doesn't work but I'm alsmost 99% sure it'll work if you're already dialating as much as you are. I hope this helps and good luck to both of you. Please let us know what happens.

Hi, I chickened out of going for a non medical induction. Felt scared & didn't sleep all night at the prospect of doing it, and then through lack of sleep I felt very sick! Been having very mild contractions today (from s_x this morning)! After a lot of deliberation I've decided to be gutsy and try caster oil. Went to three supermarkets and a pharmacy and non of them sold it? Just bought a bottle from the net with express delivery. It will be despatched tomorrow (monday) and hopefully delivered Tuesday! I'll let you know if it works, thanks for the suggestion. Keep you updated! I just wish I could try it today. Are you in the UK? If so where did you buy it from? Many thanks again.

I know exactly what you are going through. I had mild/strong contractions nonstop for three days. I wasn't able to sleep or eat it was terrible. I went to the hospital and they said the contractions aren't close enough and sent me home on day two. On day three I was almost able to fall asleep and then the contractions came on harder and faster. I think relaxing helped to finally get it going. Just try to rest. I was so exhausted by the time I got to the hospital I wasn't sure if I was going to have the energy to push the baby out.

I figure I will try the whole caster oil thing if something dosen't happen soon, the whole false labor thing has become so mentally and physically draining!!!!! I have a doctors appt on tuesday and hopefully something will have happened by then so that they can induce me or something. My contractions have gotten stronger and closer but no cookie yet, and I have felt him dropping lower into my pelvis... my husband and I am praying that something will happen soon. Let me know if the castor oil works for you and luck to you.

Hi again, well, I just drank a bottle of caster oil, about 4 ounces, and I know it takes a little time to kick in but I'm going to keep you updated and hopefully you can gain some insight through my experience. If I don't get to e-mail back by tomorrow, that means it worked! It worked with my last but every pregnancy's different. Wish me luck!

Hey ladies!!!! Good News I went to the doctor today and I am 4cm so my doctor is going to induce me tonight!!!!! She let me come home to get some rest and make sure I eat before they start labor : ) I hope you guys get a break too!!! Luck to you all!

Hi Tiffany, CONTRATULATIONS -well done you! I drank caster oil yesterday and it gave me mild contractions with a very upset tummy but not much more. I'm 39 weeks and 5 days by our dates and 39 weeks 3 days by scan dates! Doctors in the UK won't induce until you are 10 days over without medical reason !! Lucky you. I'm thrilled for you. Hope your ok tonight. Keep us updates. Loads of love Sarah xx

OK, SO I MY DUE DATE WAS AUG 16TH!!! hAVEN'T DONE THE CASTOR OIL, VERY NERVOUS TO HAVE "SPLATTER" WHILE PUSHING IF IT WORKED. BUT AS FAR AS THE s_x THING, TOTALLY AGREE...EVERY TIME IT LEADS TO AT LEAST 5 HOURS OF STRONG CONTRACTIONS THAT EVENTUALLY DWINDLE OFF. SO FUSTURATING! AND ALSO MANY SLEEPLESS NIGHTS OVER THIS. I AM 3 CM AND 80%. I REALLY WANT TO HAVE THIS BABY!! IT IS OUR FIRST AND IM JUST HOPING THAT THE BABY DOESNT' GROW TO LARGE TO FIT! AT THIS POINT s_x IS STILL GREAT BUT I THINK IT IS CAUSING MORE PAIN THAN PLEASURE. GOOD LUCK AND KEEP US POSTED. I HAVE A SCHEDULED INDUCTION FOR NEXT WEDNESDAY IF NOTHING HAPPENS. ILL BE 42+1 WEEKS

Hey ladies. I had my beautiful baby boy Aug 24,2005 by emergency c-section (he was in fetal distress and my pelvic was not large enough for him to fit) He was 8lbs 8oz and 21.5 inches long!!!! A big boy! I just hope the rest of you ladies will be as lucky as I am and have the little babes soon! Best wishes and luck to you all!!! This is the greatest joy in the entire world!!! : ) I will stay posted to see how you ladies do.

Congradulations!!!!! That's very, very cool, I'm happy all went well with your baby, wow, almost 9 pounds! That's why I'm a little worried about going to my due date, I have a strange feeling this baby's big! Hopefully, I'll go into labour within the next week or I'll be begging for inducment. I did try the caster oil last week and baby wasn't ready, I'm now taking evening primrose and raspberry leaf, felt very sick all weekend, like morning sickness, and hope it's a sign! Good luck everyone and I'll be keeping in touch about this baby too!

I feel your pain, literally. I am also 38+ weeks and have been having contractions on a daily basis for about 6 weeks. I am having a problem because I am only 5'3" while my husband is 6'7" and our baby girl has quite obviously gotten her father's tall gene. I am bruised, my ribs feel like they're broken and I can't breathe anymore, even though the baby's head is engaged. I have tried everything to induce labour. Red raspberry leaf tea sucks, pineapple doesn't work, walking doesn't do anything, and s_x and nipple stimulation only give me a few contractions before they stop completely. I think I may have to resort to the castor oil if nothing has happened by the end of the week, but I have IBS and I'm not sure how my body will respond to even more stimulation. At this point I'll do anything, my husband offerred to shine a flashlight up there and tell our daughter to head towards the light. I'll let you know if it works. :)
