39 Weeks Feeling Discouraged

I have been dilated to 1cm for 5 weeks. Today, she told me I was 70% effaced and baby was at -2 station. She said I would probably make it to my appt next Friday. :( I am having so many contractions, and have been for weeks. Could they really be accomplishing so little?! I am so uncomfortable! If my water doesn't break, is there any chance that I will go soon???

Hang in there, it will happen. Truth is though your doctor is just taking a guess, it really could happen any time. When i had my dd she came just a few days after my doctor told me i was not dialated or effaced at all, she totally expected to see me at our next appt. And just a few weeks ago a friend of mine was dilated 3 cm and 50% effaced at her 38 week appt. Her doctor told her he thought she would go on her own in a few days, she didn't and ended up being induced. You just never know. I will tell you this, my friend never had any bh contractions, i had them all the time for most of my pregnancy, so maybe that means something. Good luck i hope you go soon.

Thank you, Krissy! It is encouraging to know someone who went relatively soon after hearing no way from their doc. I know it's just a guess, and maybe she said it so I wouldn't start getting too anxious. But, I'm anxious anyway! I had my daughter at 37 weeks. My water broke and I never had any bh, and nobody ever had the chance to tell me anything about how far dilated or effaced I was. So, this is all new to me! But, having so many contractions, I would have expected a little more progress! Now, I am just trying to be patient and enjoy my last days being at my daughter's beckon call before she is no longer the only child! :)
