DO NOT USE CASTOR OIL

DO NOT TAKE CASTOR OIL!!! All it does is make you poop. It is a laxative. It will also make your baby poop before it is born. They will take your baby away before you get to see them because they have to suction them before they take their first breath. Believe me, I know. And had I known that it would cause that type of harm to my baby, I would have never used it. I think I could have handled a few more days of pregnancy. (By the way, it didn't work. I had my son eight days later.) Just some advice I hope someone will actually listen to.

I understand your concern for not wanting to harm your baby but I have to disagree about taking caster oil. I had false labour for a week straight at 2cms dialated, and took caster oil to induce. My doctor ok'd it and there was not one problem with my baby, she was born seven hours later. The reason why it may cause problems could be the amount someone takes or the way their body reacts to it. Just like some foods, some people can't take certain things. It is good however that you're getting the message out that it doesn't work for everyone, but just for the other one's like myself, sometimes it does.

i have to agree with kristie i had my baby on castor oil i was 40 and 3. i took 3 teaspoons not 2 oz i didnt poop til i got to the hospital and the only reason i did that was because i had an enamia (s/c). i took it at 8 at night and woke up at 4 with contractions and had Addison at 9:52pm 18 hrs of labor. i had a c section. but she came out as healthy as a baby w/o castor oil if not better. but the reason you had the poops so bad is because you took to much.

I took what was perscribed. I was 40 weeks and 2cms dialated. I'm not saying that it doesn't work for some, but please ask you doctor. (I listened to my Mother in law). I don't want someone else to go through what I did.

I agree Kathryn. It's best to let baby come when ready. If there's a problem with mom or baby the doctor will induce in a heartbeat, so there's NO reason to try these methods.
