It depends on the person. My friend has 4 kids and used the epidural for all 4 deliveries and has no side effects from it. For my first I received it and now I suffer from bad back spasms that come and go. I started to get them 3 weeks after my pregnancy till now which has been 8 years later. I usually get them during the winter once every 2 months. They have you sign a waiver before they give it to you. Also, I heard some women feel a burning sensation when its administered. I didn't feel that at all, all I felt was a cold sensation...I didn't even feel them insert the needle. I am pregnant again and am due on the 23rd of this month. I don't want to receive it for this pregnancy for fear that my back pain will get worse, however my labor pain was so intense the first time that I still might leave it as an option. Again, every woman is different so Im just giving my version. Hope it helps you out and congratulations with your pregnancy.

You'll be fine, don't be scared. What doesn't kill you will only make you stronger...and women are strong. Its all mental. Im not tolerant with pain, I cry for paper cuts. Again everyone is different so just enjoy your pregnancy and if you watch TLC's Baby stories....change the channel when its time for whomever it is on the show to deliver. That will make anyone scared...lol, But seeing those cute baby's after they are born always makes me cry. Just tell yourself that you can do it and if in the event you end up taking something for the pain don't feel bad or scared. Just take good care of yourself and your baby and it will all be worth it in the end.

I had an epidural with my first baby and a spinal for my 2nd (scheduled c-section)... no problems at all. Everyone's different, though... when it comes down to it you just have to make sure you have a well-experienced anesthetist and hope you're one of the lucky ones if you decide to get it.

The only problem I had was the routine shaking and nausea and soreness in my back where they put it. You may experience a migraine as I did but it all goes away.

i had an epidural with 3 out of 4 births and everything was fine thank God. the actual needle thing only hurts for a few seconds. and one time it took more than a regular amount of time for it to wear off, which left me with legs that wouldn't move but that was just annoying, not painful. and the one birth without the epidual made me realize how great the epidural is ! good luck!
