Effacing is the thinning out of the cervix. They'll tell you the amount it is opened (i.e. 2 cm.) and the amount "thin" or effaced it is. I've been at 4 cm. and 80% effaced for two weeks now and it was similar with my last pregnancy. I, too, am 37 weeks along. Good luck. Hang in there.

Hi. I've been 3.5cm and 75% effaced for the past 4 weeks and still no baby yet! You can't really tell when labor is going to happen, but it is going to happen soon. I'm on my 40th week now and I'm hoping she'll come any day now. Tomorrow is supposed to be my due date, but I don't know if she's ready to come out yet! Good luck though! =)

Hey, thanks for the response... We will get there eventually. I guess its just your body getting ready. I was so excited when my doctor told me I was dilating and effacing. Once you get to 100% effaced then are you that much closer to labor?

I am due on thursday 8-2 and am 2cm and 50%. I have 2 boys and have never been overdue so this bothers me. Will it come soon???

I too am 37 wks pregnant, 2 cm dilated, & 80% effaced.. Dr told me that because the babies head is like sitting right at the bottom of my cervix, hes gonna come like a firecracker... I have been having contractions for days & days now, but still dont know what it will feel like when Im 100% effaced, and in true labor.. Do any of you ladies out there have any idea here on how I can tell the difference? Scared I am not gonna know the real deal opposed to what I have been feeling lately! Thanks for any help ...

I am 37 weeks pregnant, but when I was 36 weeks pregnant I went for a check up and i am 1 cm dialted 50 percent effaced, she had trouble checking my cervix since the baby was right on top of it, but I go to my next appointment Thursday
