I have been told by a few of my gal friends whom have at least 2 children each....and they say labor is sooo painful that you can pass out and die from it. I do not know what to believe.....I just want to know. I am 22 weeks and scared to death. Please help me.

Labor's not that bad. No one dies from the pain. And I don't know anyone who pa__sed out.

Ok, the pain will not kill you... but there are a few things during labor that can, like too much bleeding, uncontrolled blood pressure (low or high) etc. Now, the pain is not like anything you've felt before, not like a broken bone or anything, and yes once that baby is out the pain is GONE!!! Dont let that fool you thoughm, it is very hard so it is important to keep focused on the task and what your doing it for. the hardest part is by far the shortest time-wise. I have started a post called "pitocin is not always needed" which will help you realize that intervention can be prevented and you will have a much more pleasant labor.

i have one son and i'm pregnant now so if it hurts that much why would yor friends continue to have kids! it is uncomfortable and it feels like you are taking the biggest poop of your life(not kidding) but you forget all that once you hold your baby. i do recommend an epidural if your not up to feeling some pain

I think that it is obviously natural to be afraid of labor. It hurts sure, but millions of women have had babies and they're just fine. Try and relax and enjoy being pregnant as opposed to being so scared about birth. Educate yourself by doing some research and by talking to family members and friends and that may seem to help. For me, my labor was from start to finish 3 hours. This included driving to the hospital, changing, throwing up, getting an epidural, and then finally having her. It's doable...and you all will be fine!!! :o)

I HAD AN EPIDURAL AND I NEVER FELT ANY HORRIFIC PAIN ALTHOUGH THE BACK LABOR DOES HURT AND THE EPIDURAL DOES NOT NUMB IT. I KNOW THAT HAVING A BABY NATURALLY HAS TO BE HORRIBLE PAIN, BUT I WOULDN'T KNOW, HOWEVER I HAD AN EPISIOTOMY AND THAT WAS HORRIBLE! I DID NOT FEEL IT TIL THE NEXT DAY BUT MY LORD IT HURT AND IT TOOK AROUND 2 WEEKS FOR ME TO FINALLY HEEL FROM THAT AND BE ABLE TO WALK NORMAL.

The pain varies for every woman-- some say they'll never do it again because it was so terrible... yet once they've actually pushed the baby out and are holding their child, the vast majority of them know that the joy was much greater than the pain. Then again there are a lot of women who say the horror stories were exaggerated and the pain was quite manageable.
