Premature Babies

Does anyone know if their are laws regarding premature babies and the length they must stay in the hospital before being allowed to go home?

I am sorry I don't. My hubby was a premie,and we had to stay for ,along time due to his small size and major health probs.So they had to montior him all the time.So I hope all goes well for you!!God Bless

It depends on how premature and if there are any problems/complications due to this...

Usually the baby needs to be ale to breathe and eat on its own. With or without a feeding tube...they need to be able to have a good sucking reflex. Most of the time the babies stay in until their due date if they are severely premature..like before 33 weeks. After that the babies lungs are usually well enough that they only have to be in there for a few days or even go home with mom.

My oldest daughter was born at 31 weeks and spent 21 days in the hospital. They have to be able to breathe on their own, bottle or nipple feed, maintain body temp. and weigh over 4 lbs. and not be losing weight.
