I am 35 weeks 2 days pg and I read in several different internet articles as well as magazines that sudden frequent bowel movements could be a sign labor could begin within the next 48 hours. I am normally very regular and have had no constipation this entire pregnancy. I usually go #2 at least two or three times a day. But since yesterday I have been going EVERY TIME I go to the bathroom to pee and that is like every 15-30 minutes. My question is, as far as you ladies know, could this truly be a sign at 35 weeks? For those of you who have had children, did u experience increased bowel movements? One other thing . . . what does lightening feel like? Everyone says I am carrying lower, and I feel as though my pelvis has suddenly expanded to full capacity with a ton of bricks. However I don't feel the typical "easier breathing" or "less intense heartburn". Thanks for all your answers in advance!!

hey krissy - I had bathroom issues around 36 weeks as well and was 3cm & 80% effaced...thought for sure it was labor. Well, I'm a few days past 38wks and still no baby. It could be a preliminary sign. Also, I never really felt any significant change as far as dropping. I DID feel a huge change in pressure in the pelvic area around 36 weeks and it's horrendous now. Some people never notice it though. I didn't with my dd - maybe because I was carrying low to begin with.

Krissy - I had the same situation as you with my first...I went a lot and felt the same toward the very end. I never realized though or thought that more frequently could mean you might go into labor soon. I think anything that happens to you right at the end you could relate possibly bring on labor. Is this your first? 35 weeks is still pretty early. I would relax and not stress it too much. I'm pregnant with my 2nd now (they'll be just 10 months apart!) and this pregnancy is totally different...I had constipation for the first time in my life and found it worse pain that giving birth naturally, I kid you not. Horrible.
Don't stress it - you're almost there and a lot of discomforts are going to increase!

Thanks for your ideas and help ladies. My doctor would actually like for me to spontaneously go into labor between now and 37 weeks because my baby girl is measuring 3 weeks ahead and if she doesn't come on her own before then we may have to schedule a c-section because of her size. UGH! I really don't want that but what will be will be. I just wanted ideas. Thanks a lot ladies!

I think i had the same symptoms but i had the frequent bowel movements after my water broke(water broke with no contractions, had to wait to be induced-not fun). I really hope you go into labor, being induced is not a way i would want to go again, and although i've never had, i dont think a c-section would be that great either. Good luck to you!
