Can you feel effacement/dilation? I've had this weird stabbing pain around my crotch for the last week or so, and I was wondering if that's what it could be?

I've had the weird stabbing pain too. I don't know if it's effacement but it's definately our bodies getting ready. I"m on the just mommies boards and alot of ladies say they have the same thing. I'm 36 weeks and 2 days along.

I HAVE THE SAME THING!! I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO FIND INFO ON IT. THE SHOOTING COMES OUT OF NO WHERE. I HEARD IT PROBABLY IS DILATION/EFFACEMENT

Ive been suffering the same sort of pain. I have no idea what it is. The first time i felt it i was about 5 months pregnant, im now 30 weeks and im finding the pain to be more frequent.

I'm having the same thing... I'm almost 29 weeks... (due July 16). I've had it about 3 different times today. Just a stabbing pain out of nowhere. Kinda freaks me out... anybody know what's going on?

I asked my doc at my last appointment (37 weeks) and he told me it was most likely the baby's head bonking against the lower pelvic floor. I still wonder if it's something changing in my cervix...it really is like a pinching or kicking feeling. Sometimes I even get this major pains in my b___t (haha, but true) when I try to get up. I will be sitting on the couch, and I try to get up, and I have to stop because it feels like something inside me is going to rip or tear. Don't know what that is either....

No, its not your cervix dilating... it is just the muscles stretching, pulling, and preparing for the baby to move down into position.
