What exactly is done when membranes are stripped?? And does it hurt a lot?? How long does it take? Does your doctor have to tell you when he/she strips your membranes or is it standard procedure?? Sorry for asking so many stupid questions... Just curious.

hiya - i read somewhere that the doctor inserts a finger into your cervix, then moves them in a sweeping motion, which separates the membrane from the cervix, which in turn stimulates the production of prostoglandins, which bring on labour. hope this helps
