What Exactly Is Stripping The Membranes

It's not breaking the water is it? I really am clueless.

I had it done a couple times with my last pregnancy and it didn't do anything...I think this is what it is and I could be COMPLETELY wrong. Basically your doctor/midwife takes his/her fingers and runs them in between the amniotic sac and your uterus, separating them.

How do they get their fingers in there that far??? Ouch!

You have to be dilated and effaced some for them to do it. My Dr. mentioned doing mine next appointment (tomorrow), but I don't know that it does anything. I've heard it works for some, but mostly I hear it doesn't. Good luck if you're getting it done!
