Baby Movement During Contractions

Is it possible for the baby to move during a contraction? I've been having these really bad pains in my lower abdomen and lower back and I don't know if it's the baby moving that's hurting me, or if it's a contraction. It really hurts and sometimes if I'm walking and it happens, I have to stop because it just hurts so much. IT's almost feels like I have to pee (even though I know I don't) accompanied by more pain in my back. Are these contractions? Or just baby moving?

Hi girls! Apparently the baby moves before a contraction. I know what you are going through. I had the same type of pain during last friday and saturday. For the last two days it's gone. The doctor told me that it was the baby positioning for birth (I'm 38w5d). My pain in the lower back lasted for several seconds, but not long enough for being a contraction (normally you feel your tummy hard as a rock). Hope this helps. How far are you?

I will be 40 weeks this Thursday. My tummy is always hard though. And there are times when I swear that it gets harder, but then I see it moving and I know it's my baby. I think he's playing tricks on me. And the whole feeling of having to pee hurts! There have been a couple of times where I get up and I have that feeling and I swear that I feel like something's gonna come out , either the baby or my bladder.

so...... it was the baby moving. Contractions feel like someone is poking you with several needles on your lower back and like someone is pushing down hard on the top of your belly.

I think I should know because this is my second pregnancy and I've been through labor once before but do contractions always hurt your back? I dont remember...and dont remember my back really hurting during labor last time.

Hi cattac, i asked my midwife that very question this morning as i hadn't had any backpain until a couple of days ago. She told me that when you're in real labour the top of your tummy tightens and goes hard and you get pains in your lower tummy that spread round your back. They go round the whole of that area and get stronger as labour develops. But I suppose with all things to do with pregnancy no 2 pregnancies will be the same and it will just depend. Hope this has helped!
P.S wish the backpain had stayed away, have been barely able to walk today :o(

vonzo...thx for the info. I guess we will all find out soon enough. i had no back problems with my first pregnancy but have had back problems with this pregnancy several times. i'm scheduled to be induced 10/19 but would like to go on my own before that...i was induced last time and would just like to see what contractions are without the pitocin.

You've still time to go on your own cattac, i'll keep my fingers crossed for you! I'm due in 6 days but see no signs of her deciding to turn up on time, grrr! I think i'll be induced round about the 9th if she hasnt made an appearance by then. They dont book you in for inductions over here untill you're actually overdue usually 41+3

you can also get back pain if your babe is "sunny-side-up"---his/her spine next to yours...which you might not have experienced during first labour.
