i haven't had even a cramp, much less a poop, after 4 hours. shouldn't i have? i also would rather poop now, then at delivery time (uggh). i took 3 tablespoons, do i need to take more then that to feel any cramps. i know, who wants cramps right? i do, cause iam THAT constipated, and it's the only way i will go. labor happening would be a huge added bonus. thanks!

well, i'll be 39 weeks on friday and if i haven't gone into labor yet, i will take some castor oil by noon and get to walkin because im huge, exhausted, and soooo ready! it worked with my last son at 38 1/2 weeks so hopefully it will work with this one. as far as the taste, i drank it straight followed by a few sips of sprite. i really didnt think it was as horrible as everyone says it is! tasted alot like melted chapstick to me. greasy and thick but not really any kind of extreme 'taste'. i DO remember the cramps though, sitting in the bathroom! but like i said in an earlier post, it brought them on and thats what i wanted then, im starting to think i want that now! wish me luck!

I took castor oil with my son at the recommendation of my pediatrician, whose husband is a long-standing, respected obstetrician. I was right at my due date and like clockwork I was admitted to the hospital 11 hours after finishing it with my water breaking. I really did not have a lot of diarrhea either. I am now 37 weeks by dr. calculation and 39+ by my calculations and just had 3 tablespoons at 3:30 today. Am going to try to get 3 more in within the next 1/2 hour and we'll see. I've been having contractions for a week but not strong enough to do anything. I've had diarrhea once since taking it this afternoon and am having a lot of pressure in my belly and a low backache. Good luck to all!

I bought some today at walmart, it says on the bottle odorless and tasteless..and it was! just thick is all, no bad taste...anyway I took 2 spoonfulls, (the kind you use for dinner) to see what would happen. I finally had a BM a few min ago and took it about 1pm. I plan on taking more in the morning so i am not up all nite...my doc suggested it as I am 38 weeks 5 days and have contractions every 15 min for 2 days I am 2 cm and 50% effaced..this is my 4th child...waer broke on first 2 kids and last kid was late had to be induced...it is 105 here in FLa with the heat index...i am ready to get this kid out! the ultrasound at the hospital yesterday said he is fat and sa__sy so why not drink the stuff!?

Ladies I know that castor oil does work. Your body has to be ready to go into labor before you drink it. At your next doc appt if they check you ask if you are thined out and if you are the oil will work. Some might have to drink more then others. hope this helps

I'm 39 1/2 weeks today and will be trying castor oil on Saturday at 4 am (if no labor happens before then!) I am getting very impatient for labor to start (and have my mom in town for the next 3 weeks only) and am already 2 cm and 80% effaced, which from all I've read is key to the oil treatment working (being ready AND far enough along). My doc has also stripped my membranes this week. I want to say something to those impatient ladies: Your due date could possibly be off by 2 weeks or more, so if you take it and it does start labor you could force a premature birth. The health of your baby should be foremost, being uncomfortable is all part of the end of pregnancy! Keep a journal, enjoy the feelings and wait it out! Please wait to try this until you are to your due date and good luck. I am ready with my baby wipes in the toilet as well! I'm a little confused on which dose I'm going to take, I think 1 oz (2 tbls) should do the trick with some RootBeer.

Heather, when i took it at 38 1/2 weeks with my last son, i took the recommended dose on the back of the bottle and then about 4 hours later, a second dose. that worked fine for me and soda is WONDERFUL in 'chasing' the thickness down, though it really doesnt taste bad to start. its just very thick! i'm 39 weeks today and im taking it at noon and if nothing happens in 4 hours ill do a second dose like last time. i'm sure my baby's fine - he's huge! (bigger than my first son) so hopefully my body is good to go and ill be having my second little boy very soon :) good luck to you!

where in the store do you find it. Like which department?

kevyn - July 29

u find it in the laxative section :) just ask, theyll know why u want it trust me :) anyways, i tried to take 2 tbsp at 1:30 and didnt even make it to the sink (two steps away) before it came right back up. YUCK! i never had that problem before so i was very taken aback and a little disappointed :( i'm sure some of it stayed down though since its so thick. anyways, i ate, then waited and mixed 2 more tbsp with a can of ginger ale and drank it until i started to gag (i got most of it in) then i gave up. im gonna drink more later with rootbeer but for now ill just wait and take a nap cuz i have a headache. i'm starting to think i dont want to have the baby this weekend THAT bad! it was WAAAY worse than i remembered it and ive been on here actin like its not that bad. well ive joined the majority of you girls in opinion of how it tastes now. i just hope it works again this time and that its worth it. if not, ill be very disappointed but o well, what can you do right?

Heather - July 30

I just took my 2 tbls as planned a few minutes ago, nothing to right home about. I mixed it with a fork quickly to get it fuzzy with 4 oz of Root beer, just enough that I would be able to chug in one drink. I could only tell anything was in the rootbeer because a little was left on my lips, just washed it off. There was no taste, no aftertaste, no oily clugging while drinking it...all of the bad taste of castor oil, now I know is an old wives tale to scare kids into not being bad for fear of having to take castor oil - I believe! Way, way too much hype made about the taste, it had me a little scared to even take it! Anyway, it is 4:48 am and I'm on going back to bed will update later!

I took 2 oz with OJ at 2:15 and haven't had really anything happen yet starting to feel a little crampy but that's about it. Should I take the second dose. I am on my third pregnancy and am dialated to 2 and 50% 5 days ago. Please resond asap. Thanks

I'm going to be 38 weeks on Monday and can't stand to be pregnant one more day!! So...took the castor oil 3T with Dole Pine-Orange Banana Juice...Held my nose and wiped my mouth out with a warm wash cloth. If you like this juice, this method was great, b/c all you taste in the end is the juice. I took another dose at 9:30pm, as well as rubbed some on my tummy (I heard it worked?!) it's 11:30 now and I have only been to the bathroom twice. I have a little cramping and tightening of the tummy, but no timeable contractions....I'll let you know if it ends up working.

Okay, my wife is 39 weeks and can't wait to give birth. Like others have said, her mother suggested the delicious concoction (oil and oj), so she is on her way to the store. My first reaction to the tantalizing drink, was that it would cause stomach cramps and those cramps would possibly include labor. I wouldn't drink the stuff, unless I was out of beer. Lets hope it works. If so, I will have a daughter tonight. If not, I guess I will be heading to the store for some Pepto Bismol. I will keep you posted.
