Does Getting An Epidural Hurt

i just had my first baby and epidural on friday 12-16, and the local that they put in first pinched and burned, and then when he put the medicine in, it kind of made my back feel like it cramped up where it went in, the anathsieologist(sp) was really good and explained everything he was doing, he even told me to expect the cramping feeling. all in all, it kind of sucked but it helped the pain almost instantly. i would do it again, because the pros definately out weigh the cons. i also agree with shelbi in that some people care and some people don't, just ask whoever does it to explain what they are doing to you if they don't on their own, and that might make you feel better about it....good luck and god bless!!

Go for the epidural!!!!! it really is no worse than the iv being inseted, and it works great! i had my baby a week ago, the hospital i was in wont do the epidural until your 4cm, so hopfylly you dilate quick. It took me 20 hours to get to 4cm, so after being in labor that long the epidural felt like nothing, the pain of the contractions was way worse. It really helps you to relax, after mine i was actually able to sleep for three hours, then it was tome to push! I never felt the ring of fire, i couldn't feel anthing down there, which was a good thing because they had to use the vac_m and forceps to get my little girl out. I never even felt the episiotomy or st_tches! i was totally numb. You can still push the baby out while numb, my baby was turned the wrong way so she wouldnt come past the pelvic bone, thats why i had to have a little help. Dont worry you will be just fine!! good luck and merry christmas :)
